A.G. Russell Knives

The Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep and the Desert Big Horn Sheep complete Browning’s Full Curl Sheep Series of four knives designed by commercial hunting guide and knifemaker Russ Kommer. The first two, the Dall Sheep and the Stone Sheep were offered in the last Knife Collectors Club™ brochure and are available in the upcoming Russells™ for Men catalog and on the A. G. Russell™ website.

Our good friend, commercial hunting guide and knifemaker Russ Kommer has recently teamed up with Browning® to produce a limited edition series of hunting knives representing each of the four Full Curl Sheep. The designs are all Kommer; the manufacture is by Browning. Those knives will begin to deliver in the next few weeks. As a part of that collaboration, Russ is making a limited edition of fifty of his drop point hunter for Browning.

Nearly 3 million men awaited his order.

The Robert E. Lee bowie is the fifth release in a series of six knives honoring American people, events or locations of historical significance. The first four were: The Liberty Tree, the Alamo, the Vietnam War and Crazy Horse. Browning expects to release Dwight Eisenhower in 2009. Browning, together with American Forests, develops each knife when wood becomes available from a tree that witnessed the event.

We are always looking for knives with unusual locks. Especially, those that seem to offer a better way of releasing the lock. This knife from Browning fits that bill. The locking system is basically a locking liner, but with a twist. It takes both liners to make this lock work.

Browning® has chosen a single blade Bailey Bradshaw lockback folder with bolsters and caps as the first release in their second series of their Mastersmith Collection. Through the next several weeks they will release the second knife from each of the four mastersmiths: Jerry Fisk, John Fitch, Joseph Keeslar and James Crowell. Each knifemaker has earned Mastersmith rank with the American Bladesmith Society.

The Keesler Hunter has a 5-1/2" satin finished drop point blade of high-carbon tool steel at 57-59 Rc. The Birdseye Maple handle scales are pinned to the full tang with four copper pins and are separated from the tang with copper liners.

The Browning "Mastersmith Series" is remarkably successful, thanks in large part to the very desirable limits of only 500 of each knife. This means that there are never quite enough to go around to the dedicated collector/users of Browning products. "Big" John Fitch's large drop point is the third release in this series. The Bradshaw folder and Keeslar Hunter were released earlier this year.

The Crowell Hunter is the fourth release in Browning's Mastersmith Collection which includes knife designs from five of the most prestigious bladesmiths in the country; Bailey Bradshaw, Jerry Fisk, John Fitch, Joseph Keeslar and James Crowell. Each knifemaker has earned Mastersmith rank with the American Bladesmith Society.

Jerry Fisk is one of the most highly recognized bladesmiths making knives today. His knives have received so many awards that it would take much of this page to list them all. As a boy, Jerry watched in awe as a neighboring blacksmith created knife blades at his forge. A sixth grade field trip to the old James Black shop in Washington, Arkansas seems to have assured Jerry's path in life.

Rope Cutting Competitions have become a spectator sport and are showing up more and more at knife shows around the country. The only two men to win an American Bladesmith (ABS) World Cutting Championship are James Crowell and Reggie Barker.

Crazy Horse was a leader. He was often at odds with leaders of his tribe, yet he has become the most revered of all Sioux leaders, including Sitting Bull, and has far eclipsed Red Cloud and Spotted Tail who engineered his death.
