The Silver Knight is a great Gerber pocketknife designed in the late 1970s or early 1980s by Al Mar and the folks at Sakai in Seki City, Japan for Pete Gerber. In the early 1990s, we purchased the last of these knives found in the Gerber warehouse. Among those were 55 knives without handle scales.

Gerber Legendary Blades® first introduced the Mark II™ in 1966 during the Vietnam War. It became the most sought after knife of the Viet Nam conflict and has been one of the best selling knives of all time.

The Covert from Gerber was a 3/4 size version of the big run-away best seller Applegate-Fairbairn® Combat Folder. The Covert was itself a big seller. Its 4-5/8" handle made it still a pretty big knife for the average pocket. Gerber is now offering the Mini-Covert, which is a really great, neatly sized knife with a 3-5/8" handle of glass filled nylon, and 2-7/8" blade of AUS-6 at 56-58 Rc. Like the Combat Folder and the Covert before it, it uses the Liner-Lock® invented by Michael Walker. Weighs 2.1 oz. Made in Taiwan.

Every traveler using an automobile, Jeep, SUV or any other vehicle should carry this kit when on the road. We carry one in each vehicle. When driving to the Guild Show in 1997, I saw a couple somersault a big Mercury at 65 mph. When I pulled up to help, they had landed facing the opposite direction from which they were traveling, but right-side up. It took the third vehicle to stop before any of us had tools to help make those people safe.

Gerber has redesigned the EZ-Out. The function is still the same, only the design is different. They have added two additional holes in the blade for a sleeker look and a slightly lighter feel in your pocket.

The Gerber Back Paxe is a small kindling splitter or game axe made in Finland by the parent company, Fiskars, and has to be handled to be appreciated.

Gerber's push-button lock Sport Saw is a winner. The Big Game Hunter, the Camper, and the Gardner will all find this a really useful tool. This saw leaves a cut surface like a fine cabinet maker's handsaw. It can handle the bones in a moose or a deer, cut firewood as fast as a good axe, and for trimming 3-4 inch limbs around the house you cannot find a better hand powered saw. The secret is in the teeth.

It is hard to believe that the same person who designed the Stallion and the Gator for Gerber has designed what they are calling the Gerber AR 3.00. However, I am assured by the people at Gerber, that this is the case.

The Gerber Legend is the best looking of the multi-function tools and is one of the most comfortable to use. The Nike like swoops of the 3M rubber inserts along the sides of the cast aircraft alloy handles provide a cushioned, more secure grip and changes the appearance.

The design team of knifemaker Bill Harsey and retired Navy SEAL James Watson has done a really fine job on the Silver Trident.
