September Letter

Dear Customer and Fellow Knife Enthusiast;

In our previous catalog, A. G. gave you some information about an issue with U. S. Customs that promised to make the majority of the folding knives we all carry every day illegal. As of today (July 20, 2009), with leadership from the American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI), the knife community has made some real progress on this issue. This progress is directly related to the effort made by a very large number of people - from the 37 knife companies; from manufacturers, distributors, retailers and other support companies who are members of AKTI and who have devoted countless hours and a large amount of funds to the effort; and from over 5,200 individuals who took the time and made the effort to send "paper mail" directly to U. S. Customs objecting to their proposed ruling.

June 23, 2009 Letter

Dear Customers and Friends,

As I write this letter (June 23, 2009) the ability of American citizens to buy, sell or own folding knives is being threatened by a proposed ruling by U. S. Customs. You can read the proposed ruling and keep up with current happenings at: http://www.akti.org/legislation/uscustoms.html. There are also model letters and talking points to help you compose your own letter of objection and which will provide information you can use when you talk with your legislators.

January 2009 Letter

Dear Customer and Friend:

By the time you read this, Christmas 2008 will be a week or so in the past. We now face a new year with a new, young, super-liberal President and an economy in less than great shape. Our company experienced a 33% postage increase in mid-2007 on everything we mail and we face a proliferation of internet dealers trying to see just how thin they can slice margins. All of this makes it more and more difficult to use our catalog to sell knives that are available to every guy (or gal) who decides to set up an internet operation in his extra room or garage. Goldie and I feel that this calls for a new business plan.

A. G. Russell™ Field Tweezers--For every pair sold, we will ship two pair to our troops.

May 10, 2005 — This little pair of tweezers played an important role in establishing the "War on Troop Boredom", our program of sending used paperback books and DVDs, a pair of these tweezers, magazines and a knife to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Shortly following our entry into Iraq in 2003, a customer called with the suggestion that we provide these much sought after tweezers. He was a retired soldier and had first hand experience with the convenience of carrying this simple little tool on his Dog Tags. We found the source and from the beginning have been providing them as a part of the package we send.

A.G. Russell™ Knives Supports U.S. Troops in War on Terror

September 1, 2004 — In March of this year we began supporting our troops fighting terrorism in the Middle East. I grew up in a military family, and I know the loneliness that each of our soldiers and their families suffer when overseas. A "care package" from home can go a long way toward boosting morale and to show them they are appreciated.

A. G. Russell™ Damascus Kitchen Knives with VG-10 Core

September 1, 2004 — This Damascus Kitchen Knife set is so great that customers who have been searching for a truly superior kitchen set will be absolutely thrilled. We made use of VG-10 stainless steel at 59-61 Rc. blades which are ground so thin that they seem to just melt through whatever you are cutting with no effort at all. Not only will customers be pleased with blades this thin, but will love their ability to hold
an edge, and re-sharpening is a breeze.

A. G. Russell™ SeaMaster™

September 1, 2004 — In February of this year, while in a meeting with Fox Cutlery of Italy, I decided that it was the ideal time to respond to the many requests I had received for a newly designed seaman's knife. A new design would allow the introduction of many innovative features, which I already had in mind, and the opportunity to utilize some of the new technology and materials available today. In short order, I sketched out my ideas explaining each of the important features and detailed the new materials to be used for each one. Thus was the birth of the SeaMaster.

July 13, 2004 — In the hills of northwestern Arkansas resides a man who has had more influence on the modern knife business " both handmade and production knives " than anyone else. A catalyst in the knife boom of the late 1960s and early 1970s, A. G. Russell's influence continues strong today!

A.G. Russell™ Funny Folder ™

July 13, 2004 — The design is over 50 years old. I first saw it that long ago as an advertising knife from the Ford Motor Company. With modern technology and materials, we feel that there is a market for these great little knives at reasonable prices. We are so sure of your response that we have applied for registration of the Funny Folder name as our trademark for the knife.

A. G. Russell™ Knives Newest Offering Takes Us Back in Time - Grandad's Lockback

November 10, 2003 — A. G. Russell Knives recently released the A. G. Russell Granddad's Lockback. When asked where he got his inspiration for this knife, A. G. said that one of America's oldest knife companies told him that they had a quantity of handles of an old, old model with no blades. So he designed a blade that would take advantage of the full length of the handle.

For the duration of The War on Terror, that is as long as there are troops in combat or on the verge of combat, they will continue this program.
