The V-sharpener using ceramic rods was invented by Louis Graves. We have always disagreed with Louis about the proper angle for the rods, but in every other way, he really knew what he was doing. Our rods are set at 15° per side, creating a compound 30° angle on the blade edge. The 90+% Alumina Ceramic sharpening  rods will sharpen your knives for years and years. In fact, the only way to wear these rods out is to break them by dropping on a hard surface. Just keep the knife straight up and down as if scraping a decal off of the surface of the rod, draw the knife down one side of the "V" and then the other. This will quickly give you a razor like edge. I use this device daily and think there is no better way for most people to sharpen their knives.

You can buy all of the sharpening gadgets in the world, including some very expensive machines, and they will not add up to the value of this great device. Walnut base measures 10-1/4" long with two ceramic sharpening rods.

Use the Rust Eraser to clean the ceramic rods.

A.G. Russell Knives

From the age of nine I made homemade knives until I was about twenty-four when I began to make handmade knives, crude but no longer made at home. A few years later, I had met and learned from makers like R.W. Loveless and R. L. Dozier. I made knives until the mid 1970s. I don’t make handmade knives anymore, as my hands aren’t what they used to be. However, I do have very talented makers in the United States and Japan who make knives that I am proud to put my name on. I design pocketknives, one hand knives, lockbacks, and fixed blade knives and have them made to our standards. ~A.G. Russell III

A.G. Russell has been in the knives and whetstones business for over 50 years. A.G. Russell knives are well known for their quality. A.G. Russell knives tend to be more traditional in style and look, with modern advances in material and design to create excellent knives.

A.G. Russell V ceramic sharpener - A.G. knew what he was talking about when he promoted this product. A few swipes on the diamond rods and then than a few on the ceramic rods produced a razor edge on my CM154 blade in no time. I have had other sharpeners such as Lansky and Work Sharp. The V sharpener did more with better results in less time.   I will have to admit I was disappointed when I opened the box to find the toggle holding the ceramic rods in the base split in half. Some wood glue and changing the screw type from a cone shaped wood screw to a screw with a flat head made the product perfect again. I will be buying the field version for my chuck box and more to give away as gifts. I have been using and sharpening knives for 50 years. I am very impressed with this product. 10/10 James Z. Glenwood Springs, CO
AG Russell V-Sharpening System - Sadly, the quality of this sharpening system is terrible.  I have similar sharpening tools from other manufacturers, and the tolerance on the rod holes is tight, so that the rods and angle do not move.  On the AG Russell tool, there is tremendous slop in the rod holes (holes were drilled too big), so that the rods can vary by over an inch at their tips.
Changes:
Better manufacturing, tighter tolerances and/or if my particular item is an anomaly, then better quality control.

Ceramic V sharpener - I like that I found an easy to use product that can actually sharpen my kitchen knives! I like how it is easy to store the rods in the base.  The whole thing is compact enough to be able to store easily, and big enough to sharpen big knives. I would have liked to have an eraser come with it. I didn't watch the whole video before buying so I didn't know I needed one. Apparently they are cheap but it would be so convenient to have it come as part of the product. Rating: 9/10. Mikayla H. Roanoke, VA
I have had the ceramic rods in the attached picture for some 40 years. For 40 years I have prayed that the rods would not break. I have traveled half way around the world with those sticks as they are the best sharpener I have found for keeping a knife maintained. I keep my Tony Bose made pocket knives with 440V steel blades razor sharp with those old sticks. And then you come with the perfect presentation for ceramic sticks. Thank you, thank you so much.
