Each year I try to put myself in the place of one of my Great, Great, Great Uncles who was a Texas Ranger before the War Between the States. I try to imagine a new knife that he would want to carry and use. This is a knife to honor the history of a valiant group of men through the past 186 years.

The 2009 Large Folding Hunter Lockback is the second Texas Ranger knife we have managed since Camillus Cutlery disappeared. I have found a small firm that is able to do better work than Camillus did and at a lower cost, making the quality remarkable and affordable.

The entire production of one thousand of the 2008 Texas Ranger Gunstock Lockback is gone. We are following it with the 2009 Texas Ranger knife, which is a very Large Folding Hunter Lockback with the Texas Ranger round inlay set in very handsome Ebony Rucarta™ handle scales. No such knife existed during the time, so this is me trying to connect to a remote ancestor through my ability to design knives.

We will introduce only one each year. Each will be limited to 1,000 un-serial numbered knives. This is a LARGE knife with a 4-3/4" blade measuring a full 1" wide at its widest point. The Coil Spring allows us to leave lots of room for the huge blade. A striker pin allows the blade edge to come within thousandths of an inch to the locking bar and never, ever hit it.

The handle swells between the bolsters and caps to give a positive grip. Nylon washers, one on each side of the blade, create a smooth, effortless action. The liners, bolsters and caps are all stainless steel. Each knife will have the Texas Ranger Shield dated 1823-2009. The blade is 8Cr15MoV at 57-59 Rc., an excellent working steel at optimal hardness. The thong hole at the butt makes removal from the fine leather belt pouch a breeze. Measures 5-1/2" closed and weighs an awesome 7.1 oz. Made in China.
