The first Al Mar® knife, introduced to the public in 1985, was a 6" folder with a 4-1/2" blade weighing 12 oz. While some of the early knives made it into SERE (Survival-Evasion-Resistance-Escape), a program that provides military personnel, Department of Defense civilians and private military contractors with training in evading capture, survival skills and the military code of conduct, the vast majority were snapped up by those of us who love knives. Those early knives quickly made their way in to the back of gun cabinets or collections while the owners carried lighter knives.

Al Mar has continuously updated and improved their designs, with one of the latest being the SERE Operator™. With updated steel and an improved handle design, the SERE Operator™ is a must have for the tactical knife lover. It features a 5" talon style blade of VG-10 stainless at 58-60 Rc. with bead blasted black Linen Micarta® scales over a full tang. Holes through the handle to reduce weight are the most noticeable new feature. Includes a synthetic sheath system designed for ambidextrous carry in vertical, horizontal or diagonal modes. It can be customized to be attached on a belt, pack or load-bearing equipment – or just about anywhere you can think of – even inside the waistband for maximum concealability. The system's extender mounting plate can be easily drilled to allow the user full freedom to customize their attachment point(s). The SERE Operator™ is supplied with the sheath, attachment clip, secondary rubber retainer and extender mounting plate. This is one of the most versatile sheath systems available. Measures 10-1/4" overall and weighs 7.4 oz., 12.6 oz. in the sheath. Suggested retail is $359.00. Made in Japan.
