Böker® began reproducing legendary fighting knives with Damascus blades in 1999. The knife was the Applegate-Fairbairn fighter. The most recent is their re-introduction of the German Trench Knife. In 1915, when the battle lines of WWI changed into a trench war, there was a growing need to supply the infantryman with a functional dagger. Henrich Böker & Company of Solingen, Germany received the government order to develop a compact fighting knife. The 1918 Trench Knife was the result. It quickly became one of the most desired by the troops. In 2006, ninety years after that original, Böker reproduced the knife with a blade of high carbon steel with 0.75% carbon. The official tang stamp and the cowhide leather sheath are both identical to the original. They also introduced a current working version with a black Micarta® handle, 440C stainless blade and a Cordura® sheath.
As a part of this re-introduction, they are also creating a 500 piece Limited Production Run with a 180 layer Stainless Damascus blade. The dagger style blade measures 5-3/4" and is 1/8" thick for strength. The pronounced guard is also Stainless Damascus. The forearm handle of specially selected Amboyna (also spelled Amboina) has eight milled grooves for increased grip. Each is serial numbered on the back of the blade. (Sorry, no choice of serial number.) Full tang. Measures 10-1/8" tip to butt and weighs 5.8 oz. Presented in a wooden gift box with a Certificate of Authenticity. Made in Germany. Suggested retail is $775.00.
