Ron Lake and I have been friends for almost 40 years. From the time I met him, his knives have been remarkable. Ron left the traditional locking knife behind and launched into new territory from his first folder, developing features like the tail lock and the interframe.

Over the past several years, Gary Fadden, owner of Al Mar knives, has re-introduced the Al Mar Eagle, Hawk and Osprey with nickel silver bolsters and brass liners. He has also introduced the same three models and the Falcon in an Ultralight version with both the Classic style blade and with the Talon blade.

This knife is unique in that the front of the fiberglass reinforced handle has a clip (with a steel core) which allows the knife to be clipped to your clothing or gear for easy access.

This Carbon Fiber model is Spyderco's® 18th version of their limited Kopa series which was introduced in 2005. Like the other seventeen, this version is limited to a total of 600 pieces.

Spyderco has few rivals when it comes to their ergonomic hard-working knives. Their R&D team "designs in the dark", meaning function and comfort outweighs looks any day. The Native III is a prime example of this.

This tiny Titanium Lockback Folder is based on the A. G. Russell Ultimate Pen Knife which we introduced mid-year 2003. The Pen Knife is a slip joint and measures only 2" closed. While it is an extremely handy and useful little knife, I saw the need for a knife that is just as thin (to rest comfortably in your pocket) but is a little larger and locks.

I was really proud of the huge hawkbill knife we introduced last year. The thrill I felt about that knife is being duplicated with the delivery of every new A. G. Russell designed folder. This 2008 Texas Ranger™ celebrates the 185 years since the first Rangers were put in the field to protect the people of Texas and their property.

For years, I have wanted to offer A. G. Russell™ customers an outstanding hawkbill knife.  With the help of our new engineering department, we have gone far beyond the hawkbill as produced by knife manufacturers in the past.

I've always wanted a non-threatening knife with a double ground blade, and I mostly prefer that single blade knives lock. I've totally redesigned the old fashioned swell end jack to reflect those two personal preferences.

The handles scales on both sides of the knife are created by Navajo silversmith David Yellowhorse. He has also hand carved the nickel silver bolsters and caps. The liners are brass.

The A. G. Russell™ Lockbacks with drop point blades were a staple in our line of knives for nearly ten years. They were first produced with AUS-8 blades, then in 1998 they were some of the first models that we converted to ATS-34. Now they are being made with VG-10 stainless steel at 59-61 Rc. This web page is all about a cool knife and great value. Cutlery Hall of Fame member and master lockback folder designer Ron Lake showed CRKT a prototype of this very tasty concept. It had a clean shape, choiled grip and a flat profile with G10 scales. In other words, it was a knife that just about every knife fancier would want. Their job was to make it a knife that anyone could afford. Because it’s a rugged no-nonsense design with Western flair, they decided to call it the Bandera™.

The handles are created by Navajo silversmith David Yellowhorse using turquoise, bloody jasper, black jet and ironwood inlaid with nickel silver on both sides of the knife.

Each year Buck® creates a small group of customized knives using standard Buck® models. In 2008, among other models, they created what they refer to as the Buck Guitar series. The knife industry in Europe, as well as in Japan, has always centered around one area in each country. The Ultralight series, which Al Mar® Knives began producing several years before Al died, made use of a concept that W. C. Davis and I pioneered in the early 1970s; a linerless phenolic resin (Micarta®) handle. This is a great way to make a strong, lightweight folding knife, the heavy weight metal of liners and bolsters is removed.

Browning® has chosen a single blade Bailey Bradshaw lockback folder with bolsters and caps as the first release in their second series of their Mastersmith Collection. Through the next several weeks they will release the second knife from each of the four mastersmiths: Jerry Fisk, John Fitch, Joseph Keeslar and James Crowell. Each knifemaker has earned Mastersmith rank with the American Bladesmith Society.

These three Kershaw folders are not new, they are classics. All have Rosewood handles or inlays with stainless steel bolsters or frames and brass liners.

The Nehalem and Klamath were designed by Leatherman's engineering and design team as an Extreme Use Tool. These tools are meant for use by the serious hunter of Big Game Animals. They are built to handle the thick hide of such animals as the Cape Buffalo or Wild Boar.

This traditional style lockback folder is a typical Boker. The clip style blade is new and the handle scales are crafted from smoked oak, a material I have never seen used for knife handles.

Böker® has reached the very top of the German cutlery trade. All of the firms who overshadowed them in the past are gone, or if they still exist they are having Böker® make their pocketknives.
