And while is was being engineered, CRKT decided to add some more value by offering the patented OutBurst™ assisted opening as an option, and the patented AutoLAWKS™ which automatically actuates when the folder is opened and locked, creating a virtual fixed blade instantly for the ultimate in safety.

The Hissatsu folder was designed at the request of customers who wanted a folder with the defensive power of the original Hissatsu, but could be concealed in a pocket or clipped comfortably under a jacket. It is meant to perform in environments that do not allow firearms or large fixed blade knives.

Columbia River Knife & Tool has done just that with Halligan's Ultimate Gadget. It is virtually as small, simple and lightweight as the original K.I.S.S.®, but so much more sophisticated and versatile.

Because Tom knows knives from his life as a meat cutter, professional knife sharpener, and designer of knives and Columbia River Knife & Tool® (CRKT®) exclusive Veff™ Serrations, he designed one of the most carefully thought-out fixed blades we have ever produced, even though it also has the lowest price of any knife in our catalog. He calls it the Marine Utility Knife (M.U.K.™).

As you know, Barry Gallagher is one of the most acclaimed members of the Knifemakers' Guild, well known for his award-winning high-end custom art knives. So CRKT® had a special challenge in producing Barry's Badger design at a quality level that would satisfy him, while keeping the price low enough to satisfy you.

Horus is familiar to Egyptologists as the hawk-headed god, lord of the sky. As Canyon Lake, Texas, knifemaker Allen Elishewitz developed this design for Columbia River Knife & Tool® (CRKT®), similar in many ways to his larger custom Creedmore, we saw an aggressive hawk-like character in its crisp edges, facets and choils, hence the Horus™ name. It reminds us of an F-111 stealth fighter, too.

When Jon and Josh Graham of Graham Knives in Cleveland, Tennessee, developed their custom Graham Razel™ in 2001, most knife blades came to a single point. Not the Razel. It's a cross between a chisel and a razor with a knife handle. The result gives two useful Razor-Sharp™ edges, one for pushing or tapping, and the other for precise cutting. You also get two strong blade points. The Graham brothers have been very successful with their custom versions in a variety of sizes and styles.

After the success of CRKT's M16 Special Forces series, they received requests from professional knife users in the military and law enforcement for the larger "Big Dog" size with a more versatile blade shape. CRKT talked to the designer of the series, retired Sergeant Major and Knifemakers' Guild member Kit Carson, and the M21™ special forces series is the result.

All knives in this series are equipped with clip options that allow four-position carry on belts or webbing--tip up, tip down, left or right. (Caution: These knives are not designed for tip-up in-pocket carry.)

Award-winning custom knifemakers and Knifemakers' Guild member Ed Van Hoy has designed a number of hot sellers for Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT), but this one is On Fire. No really, that's its name, On Fire™, and it has all the right equipment to be a very popular personal knives.

In my search for the lightest knife that could really be practical, I arrived at what we are calling the Ringer. There's not much to these skeletonized designs, most of the steel is cut away to save weight and make the knives easy to control. About all that's left is the cutting power and utility.

Those of you who are familiar with Allen Elishewitz's web site of exquisite custom knives will know that the new production CRKT Pharaoh is very different from Allen's custom Pharaoh. Sorry for any confusion, but this is a unique design that incorporates many of Allen's themes well deserving of the title "king." You will look very hard to find a production knife in this price class that is anything like the Pharaoh, so it does stand a bit larger than life.

George Matheis, known professionally as Mercop, is one of those big, burly cops who command your respect instantly. As a certified weapons instructor at the state and federal level, he is a fan of inverted fixed-blade carry in Kydex® or Zytel® detented sheaths for emergency self-defense. But most harnesses are complex, bulky and uncomfortable. Neck chains require a tie-down to position the knife.

Russ Kommer keeps coming up with ideas for high-value knives and tools that every hunter needs. CRKT calls this growing group of products The Kommer Collection. It includes a high-hollow ground skinner, a utility hunting knife and a unique chisel/sharpener.

CRKT has developed a line of knives specifically for emergency rescue and are based on CRKT production models. The Hammond A.B.C. E.R. is a Jim Hammond design whose name stands for "All Bases Covered." The blunt-tipped A.B.C. E.R. is designed to fill all the needs of the scuba diver and whitewater enthusiast in a single knife. The bottom hollow ground Razor-Sharp edge is suited to fine cutting tasks.

Designed for Quality, Visibility and Affordability. CRKT has developed a line of knives specifically for emergency rescue. The knives are based on CRKT production models with brushed blade finished for tip corrosion resistance in wet environments and handle scales that are a highly visible orange Zytel®.

The MAK-1™ (Multiple Access Knife) and Extrik-8-R™ (Seat Belt Cutter and Multi-Tool) were created by James McGowan, who is a professional firefighter in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Due to his career in one of Canada's busiest fire halls and his passion for the outdoors, he started making "hard-working knives" and joined the Canadian Knifemakers' Guild in 1998.

Both Triumph N.E.C.K.™ models are based on the same 1/8" thick blade of 3Cr13 stainless steel at 54-56 Rc. It is a full-tang skeletonized design, with a recurved grind on a 2-3/4" Tanto blade to aid cutting and a false top edge grind for penetrating. Overall length is 6-1/2".

Bob Kasper, the late writer and combat instructor, designed the basic outline of the C/K Dragon after ten years of study into the principles of extreme in-close fighting developed by Dr. Gordon Eric Perrigard over fifty years ago. These techniques use automatic conditioned reflexes with minimal body movement. The knife is considered as part of the hand.

Allen Elishewitz is an acclaimed young Canyon Lake, Texas, knifemaker who offers a surprising range of custom knives, many with Egyptian-themed names. CRKT asked Allen to design a production version of his Anubis™ (the jackal-headed god of the underworld, according to ancient Egyptian mythology).

The Mini My Tighe is a smaller version of the My Tighe which CRKT introduced in 2006.

The 3" blade is 1.4116 stainless at 55-57 Rc. with a high satin finish. In 2007, you will find a new style of serration on many CRKT knives. This is their exclusive Veff™ Serration designed by Tom Veff.

As a guide, and as an Alaskan, Russ Kommer is a no-nonsense guy who designs simple, functional knives. He uses his knives on every trip he guides, and the faster he can skin and dress the game, the more hunting time his party can get in. It's that simple. That Kommer knives are also graceful and well balanced is almost incidental. After Russ makes a new knife, he takes it on the next hunting trip he guides and uses it on the heavy skinning of Alaskan moose, caribou and bear. If it works right, feels right and holds its edge, Russ has another design in his book. If it doesn't, he takes it to his workshop and destroys it.

Koji Hara is noted for his custom folders in exotic materials, and is especially known for his carving of the handle material into a classic terraced landscape that he calls his "Air-Step" design. In 2000, we included two fixed blade knives with Koji's Air-Step design in the A. G. Russell catalog of knives. Those were the first made in quantity for the American market.

This is definitely not your usual small utility knife. But it is not different just for the sake of being different. Mike Franklin has carefully thought this system out, resulting in a useful outdoor tool that is also a great value.

"The M16® Fire Department Zytel® models are designed to meet the special requirements of those in fire fighting. For strength, we use our rigid InterFrame build with 420J2 stainless steel liners. Scales are injection-molded Fire Engine Red Zytel, which is a tough, strong composite of fiberglass and nylon designed to handle the worst abuse. The scales are textured for good grip in wet conditions.

Look through the CRKT catalog, and you will see page after page of successful hunting and fishing knife designs by Knifemakers' Guild® member and Alaskan guide Russ Kommer, whose custom knife shop is now in Fargo, North Dakota. But Russ blew us away with his prototype for the Full Throttle™, which is definitely a rock-solid personal frame-lock folder.

Since we introduced the Folding Sting in 2004, there have been so many requests to bring back the original that we went searching for a company that could follow the original design at an affordable price. Columbia River was the perfect choice.

The Slide Sharp uses a unique system of injection molded nylon guides to hold the knife edge at the specific angle required for optimum sharpening. A hardwood base holds a porcelain sharpening rod. Simply insert the rod in the base, slide a return spring over it, select the sharpening guide needed for your knife, and add the cap. Then pull your blade through the sharpening guide slot pressing down lightly. The return spring pops the guide up again for the next stroke. Repeat the same action as needed in the opposite slot, sharpening both sides of the blade equally, or as needed.

Designed by military consultants, these two extreme duty Special Operations Tactical Fixed Blades (SOTFB) are built to withstand the hardest possible duty in combat. The knives themselves are built like rocks, by far the heftiest full tang fixed blades CRKT has ever offered. One good idea often leads to another. As custom knifemaker Jim Hammond was designing his A.B.C. (All Bases Covered) diving and whitewater knife/sheath system, it suddenly became obvious that the system had all the qualities to make an excellent dry land fixed blade: strength, a flat profile, carry versatility, corrosion resistance, and a low reflectance black finish.

When a series like Kit Carson's aluminum handled line has been so successful, it is bound to spark calls for variations. In this case, the request was for a spear point blade similar to Kit's M18 design. As soon as they saw the first sketches, Columbia River knew they should offer it in two sizes similar to the "Little Bulldog" and "Big Dog".

Imagine the knife of the future: lightweight build, premium materials, a soft gray finish, CNC machined surfaces, a high tech lock, smooth one-hand action. Welcome to the future, because our new Elishewitz Starlight is a functional precision tool for today that would look at home in any starship.

This remarkable knife was inspired by a knife designed by Blackie Collins in the 1960s or early in the 70s which was very much a two handed knife. Ed Van Hoy has added a remarkable opening and closing device that turns this one into a "One Hand Knife." He has also totally redesigned the blade to bring it into the 21st Century. At the 2002 Knifemaker's Guild show, we selected Ed's handmade knife to receive our "Most Innovative Folder" award.

The CRKT Convergence was designed by award winning custom knifemaker Aaron Frederick and introduced in 2004. The locking mechanism is unusual enough that CRKT finally gave up on producing it. After removing the knife from their line, CRKT offered the remaining stock to A. G. Russell Knives. A wonderful opportunity for our customers.

After the incredible success of Kit Carson's original aluminum M16 Series, CRKT began to get comments like this, "I love my M16 Big Dog, but I wish I had a bit more compact size that I could carry every day, both on the job and at leisure." These requests reached the point that Columbia River could not ignore them, so here they are: the M16 Compact EDC (Every Day Carry).

This knife is Ron Lake's first knife designed around the liner-lock which was invented by his friend Michael Walker. This knife uses Ron's Interframe patent, putting inlays into the solid metal of each side of the knife. It also has a remarkable version of the Lake-Walker-Knife-Safety (LAWKS) invented jointly by Lake and Walker.

Ed Halligan has more K.I.S.S.es for you. Pucker up. The original series is now available in black Teflon® plating to make it less reflective and create a protective barrier against corrosion. Today's technology allows the blade, frame and clip to receive a special Teflon plating that is tough and long lasting.
