As a guide, and as an Alaskan, Russ Kommer is a no-nonsense guy who designs simple, functional knives. He uses his knives on every trip he guides, and the faster he can skin and dress the game, the more hunting time his party can get in. It's that simple. That Kommer knives are also graceful and well balanced is almost incidental. After Russ makes a new knife, he takes it on the next hunting trip he guides and uses it on the heavy skinning of Alaskan moose, caribou and bear. If it works right, feels right and holds its edge, Russ has another design in his book. If it doesn't, he takes it to his workshop and destroys it.
CRKT's Signature Hunters started as Kommer customs and survived his field test. They were first introduced by Columbia River in 2005 with wood handles.
A limited run of each model has just been produced with Black Micarta® handle scales and have been made available first for members of The Knife Collector's Club
Named after Alaska mountain ranges, the Signature Hunters are simple classic fixed blades, with a full tang blade of 1.4116 stainless steel at 58-60 Rc., hollow ground high and mirror polished to minimize staining and corrosion and to give less resistance while skinning. Each blade has friction grooves on the spine and its deep finger choil provides grip and control under slippery conditions. Russ's unusual diagonal handle split also provides additional finger gripping edges. The scales are held in place with classic stainless steel pins. Each knife has a lanyard slot at the butt and is provided with a fitted leather sheath.
A full-bellied skinner with a gut hook. When you have big animals to dress out, this is the knife to take along. Blade measures 3-3/8" long and 1-1/4" wide. Measures 7-5/8" tip to butt and weighs 4.4 oz.
