A.G. Russell™ Cowry Damascus

Cowry X Damascus is some of the finest blade steel I have seen. It is a laminated steel that was a forerunner of the laminated VG-10 damascus and laminated ZDP steels. The core is Cowry X at 66-68 Rc. sandwiched between layers of softer stainless steel.

A.G. Russell™ 2.5 Titanium Lockback Folder

This tiny Titanium Lockback Folder is based on the A. G. Russell Ultimate Pen Knife which we introduced mid-year 2003. The Pen Knife is a slip joint and measures only 2" closed. While it is an extremely handy and useful little knife, I saw the need for a knife that is just as thin (to rest comfortably in your pocket) but is a little larger and locks.

These knives are made using ATS-34, the steel that is used by most of today's top Custom Knifemakers. This steel is not used often in production knives for several reasons, the most important of which is cost. This steel cost several times as much as 440A or 8A and is more than twice the cost of 440C.

A.G. Russell™ Stainless Seamaster™

A.G. Russell™ Stainless Seamaster™

The original A. G. Russell™ SeaMaster™ has a 3-1/4" flat ground blade of ATS-34 high carbon stainless at 59-61 Rc. with serrations on the front half of the blade instead of the back half and an anodized Titanium Handle. Both the blade and the marlin spike are coated with a special coating composed of both Titanium and Aluminum. This is a very tough coating, with a hardness of 80 Rc. and great rust resistance. To build a knife with these over the top materials made the knife rather expensive.

While the blades are a Spey and a Sheepfoot, each blade is wider and longer and makes maximum use of the entire length of the handle resulting in shapes that are more up-to-date in look and function. We have reengineered all parts of the knife.

I have a thing for knives made in the German city of Solingen (pronounced ZOh-ling-an). Their cutlery industry is all but gone,

Cattaraugus® KCC FH-3 Two Blade Trapper 1990

This 1990 Knife Collectors Club offering, is a unique knife in several ways. Probably the most unusual thing about it is the way the large blade unlocks. In 1988 or 1989, I was shown an old knife which made use of this locking system and I was immediately intrigued. There are very few two bladed knives with a locking blade.
