Rope workers used this old pattern in the 19th Century for cutting rope against a sturdy surface. They would place the large blade against the rope and strike it with a club. This handsome knife is made just as it might have been in the early 1900s by Union Cutlery, Ka-Bar's predecessor. Each knife is serial numbered on the obverse side front bolster (Sorry, no choice of serial number).
This is a 4-1/4" even end Jack with a 2-7/8" Spear Blade and a 1-7/8" Pen Blade at the other end. The blade steel is 1095CV (with chrome vanadium added) hardened to 56-58 Rc. The liners are brass, the bolsters and inlay are nickel silver. The handles are Antique Brown Worm Groove Jigged bone. Weighs 6.6 oz. Made in the U.S.A. Suggested retail is $275.00.
