A.G. Russell Knives

Black Micarta® with leather, in the standard Randall® Model 25 handle configuration, is one of the few variations in handle material for Randall's most popular hunter. You see this model most often with India Stag used with the leather, but recently Randall has been offering it with Desert Ironwood, Ivorite and occasionally with material provided by the customer.

No two Randall Made™ knives are exactly alike, for no jigs or patterns are used in their final construction. Large scale commercial production with this kind of attention to detail is not feasible and that's why knives of this unique quality are not widely available.

The Randall Model 25, with what has become known as the Model 25 handle made up of leather washers and usually India Stag, is possibly the most beautiful knife Randall makes. For several years, this knife has been made with a handle of Leather and Maple Burl, dyed to our color specifications, exclusively for A. G. Russell™ Knives.

Back in the 1990s, I designed a hunting knife for Randall Knives to make just for A.G. Russell™ customers. We made the knife with a 4" blade and then a 5" blade. Handle materials have included India Stag, Leather and Desert Ironwood. For a new variation, we have chosen Ivorite with black Micarta® spacers for the handle. Ivorite is a dense phenolic resin material that is a white to cream in color. It is field tested to be every bit as durable as the linen Micarta's offered by Randall.

The Randall Model 8 was carried by U-2 pilot Gary Powers on his ill-fated flight over the USSR in 1960.

The Randall Model 1 Fighter was one of the first models produced in the Randall Shop in Orlando. A Model 1, made by Bo Randall, served as the prototype for the Springfield Randall that was manufactured by Northampton Cutlery Company near Springfield, Massachusetts in 1943 and 1944.

The Model 23 Gamemaster is a variation of Randall's Model 19 Bushmaster. The Model 23 was designed due to demand for a knife that had similar characteristics to the Model 19 but with a reduced blade width. Great for camping or hunting purposes.

The Randall Model 1 Fighter was one of the first models produced in the Randall Shop in Orlando. A Model 1, made by Bo Randall, served as the prototype for the Springfield Randall that was manufactured by Northampton Cutlery Company near Springfield, Massachusetts in 1943 and 1944.

I believe this knife to be the very first model that "Bo" made. It would be hard to recognize today's clean-cut Model 3 as the same knife produced in 1937. This version has an India Stag handle, brass hilt, and a duraluminum butt.

Designed for air crew survival and combat use, the Model 15 Airman knife has a 5-1/2" 0-1 non-stainless blade with a Black Micarta finger grip handle and brass double hilt.

The Model 12 Sportsman Bowie is one of Randall’s mid-sized bowie knives, designed to meet sportsmen’s demands for a heavy duty Bowie style knife.

The Model 28 Woodsman with Border Patrol Handle is a knife that was introduced by the Randall Shop early in 2010.

Designed for heavy duty saltwater use, the Model 16 Dive knife has a 7" double edged stainless blade with a Black Micarta finger grip handle and brass double hilt.

The Model 16SP #1 is a variation of that original Model 1. This is a serious knife with a 7" blade of 1/4" stainless steel with a Border Patrol handle of Green Linen Micarta® and a brass double guard.

The Randall Model 25, with what has become known as the Model 25 handle, made up of leather washers and usually India Stag, is possibly the most beautiful knife Randall makes. For several years, we had them make this knife with a handle of Leather and our own Maple Burl, which we had dyed to our color specifications. This made a very striking knife. We are currently unable to get that special color in Maple Burl, so we have ordered Randall's version with Desert Ironwood.

This was Randall's original drop point blade. After more than 60 years it is still one of their most usable knives. Designed by Tommy Thompson, noted Alaskan guide, in 1952 for big game skinning, with a point that is "dropped" below the top of the blade to prevent cutting too deeply through the skin when used point first.

The Alaskan Skinner was my favorite Randall pattern for many years. It is the first Randall I bought when I had $35 to spare. After more than 60 years it is still one of their most usable knives.

This is a heavily made dagger or dirk with a 7" blade of O-1 high carbon tool steel with a Rockwell hardness of 54. The India Stag handle measures 4-3/4"- 5" and has a brass double hilt.

This little skinner which Randall calls the Little Game, Model 21, is one of the most popular of Randall's many models. It is a practical and useful size, and in the hands of an expert, is very suitable for both large and small game. The 3-5/16" blade is forged from 3/16" stock. The overall length is 7-5/16".

This is a professional game knife. With its skinning curve and the sharply pointed tip, it can do every job needed in a deer camp. The back of the blade is notched to grip the thumb. 3-1/2" blade of O1 high carbon tool steel, 3/4" wide of 3/16" stock. 4 to 4-1/2" genuine India stag handle,brass hilt. Weighs 3.5 to 4.5 oz and includes a fine leather sheath with stone.

In the 1950s, Bo Randall designed the Model 14 Attack for the troops in Korea. A knife designed for combat and survival, this knife has become one of their most popular models. This is only the second time this Randall model has been in an A. G. Russell Catalog and never before with Green Micarta. As much as I like the Model 1, I have to tell you, if I were young and headed for Iraq or Afghanistan, I would much rather have the Model 14 on my belt.

We have been selling Randall knives for many years, but cannot purchase enough to offer them in every catalog. Before we put a knife in a catalog, we have a good stock on our shelves and a large quantity already on order from Randall. Even with this planning, we usually find that customers who order late must wait for delivery.

Pete Hamilton is recognized in the knife world as "The Randall Man." He was the shop foreman for Randall from 1970 until his retirement in 2000. This book chronicles in color photographs the making of a Randall knife.

The Model 1 All Purpose fighting Knife is one of the most popular Randall knives. The standard model has a 7" blade of 1/4" 440B stainless and a black linen Micarta® handle, double nickel silver hilt, a red, white and blue fiber spacer arrangement and a duralumin butt cap.

Bo Randall made his first knife in the late 1930s, and by World War II, Randall Knives were the best known handmade knives in the world. That level of recognition has not diminished in the sixty some years since.
