SOG's Aegis folders (ee-jis, meaning shield or protection in Greek) were introduced by SOG® in 2008. This year they have reduced the size to offer a mini version. The Aegis Mini has maintained the same features of the larger version, including SOG's patented assisted technology, (S.A.T.), just in a smaller size. Just move the blade toward the open position about 20 degrees and let the assisted opening mechanism finish the action.

At the 2007 Blade Show, Kershaw introduced an innovative twist on knife blade construction. They have developed a process where they fuse two different steels together to create a blade. The primary purpose for creating a blade in this manner is to allow the manufacturer to use a lesser quality steel for the spine and one of the more expensive high performance steels for the cutting edge.
