In 2010, after two decades, the Schatt & Morgan Keystone Shield series was retired. The Schatt & Morgan Heritage Series will replace it, and the 2011 knives are the first. The concept is to reproduce the knives shown on a particular page in one of two Schatt & Morgan catalogs, one dated 1903 and the other from around 1908.

Most horticultural or pruning knives being made today are very inexpensive and will not hold an edge. If your idea is to own a disposable knife, the common pruning knife on the market will probably satisfy you. However, if you are looking for a knife that will deliver a perfect cut and last for years, this elegant Japanese made pruner is well worth the difference in price.

For years, I have been an admirer of the Sodbuster class of knives. My favorites were always those made by Eye Brand of Solingen Germany, sadly now gone. Sodbuster, of course, is now a Case® Cutlery trademark, so I cannot offer you an A. G. Russell Sodbuster. Instead, I offer two variations: the A. G. Russell Rancher and the A G. Russell Cowboy.

We have taken a very old handle pattern and added a Wharncliffe blade made as the original designer intended. The blade measures fifty percent thicker than most other Wharncliffe blades and tapers to the edge and to the point. With a straight cutting edge and a needle point, the Wharncliffe blade works beautifully for digging a splinter out of your finger, cutting an article from the newspaper or making a fuzz stick.

This knife is functionally similar to the traditional slip-joint penknives, it is held open by a notch-joint at the knife's pivot. Spyderco added a deep finger choil positioning the index finger on the bottom of the blade directly under the thumb, giving you a heightened sense of control and comfort.

Maserin® was established in 1960. Since that time, the owners, members of the family who founded it, have relied on the tradition of artisan blacksmiths, which made Maniago the "City of Knives."

Since Buck® is in the business of making knives and I have been known to design a knife or two, we decided that I would design the knife and Buck would produce it in their factory in Idaho.

If you have ever broken a nail trying to open a strong springed knife or a difficult soda-pop can, then you know how helpful the proper tool for such a purpose can be. As I get older, I find that my once stout nails are becoming more and more like my hair, thin and fragile. Slipjoint knives, unless perfectly engineered and perfectly made, have become very difficult for me to open without an assist. Square tanged knives are very difficult without the proper tool.
