Stone River™ Gear is breaking new ground with ceramic blades. Already in 2012, they have introduced a liner-style locking folder with a ceramic blade and a steel blade (never done before). This Anso design from Fox® is his Flipper folder, with a blade shape that combines a spear point and a deep-bellied skinner. The Higo No Kami is a style of folding pocketknife native to Japan. Traditionally this is a friction folder, which simply means that the knife is held closed simply by the friction created between the washers and handle material in contact with the blade. The blade is held in the open position by your hand wrapped around the handle and the "tang" of the blade as you use the knife.

The Dolphin is designed by Italian knife designed Claudio Volapto. With being just 4-5/8" overall, this knife maybe small but it makes up for it in strength and a sharp blade.

Back in 2002, I designed a Gentleman's Pocketknife to be made for me in Switzerland by H. P. Klotzli. The results exceeded expectations and we sold several hundred. The knife won the Blade Imported Knife of the Year® award in 2002. Those originals were made with carbon fiber handle scales.

The Benchmade Torrent was designed by Ken Stiegerwalt with the Nitrous assist-opening mechanism added. Nitrous uses the inner-liner to boost the blade open. As the blade is closed, the two torsion arms, which run the length of the handle liners, are secured in place and make contact with the blade tang.

Maserin Cutlery, one of the top Italian knife manufacturers, relies on handmade knifemakers for many of their new knife designs. Claudio Riboni, who produced his first knife in 1994, is one of those knifemakers. While he has been making knives for less than twenty years, his designs reflect a very classic style with a modern flair.

The Starlight folder was designed by Italian knifemaker Salvatore Puddu. Maserin's introduction of this knife was an upscale version with stainless Damascas blade, Mokume bolsters and rare wood handle scales. They now offer the same model with no frills textured G-10 handle scales, meant to perform tough and dirty work.

Italian knifemaker Attilio Morotti has only been making handmade knives since 2002, but his desire to make the best and the advice of several of the top knifemakers in Italy has propelled his knives to the top. In 2007, his work was recognized with the "Master of the Guild of Italian Knife" designation. In 2008, he began a collaboration with Coltellerie Maserin, one of the ten or so top knife manufacturers in Italy. Located in Maniago, the "city of knives", Maserin has been producing some of the best quality knives on the market for over fifty years.

Since 1985, Boker has created an annual limited edition Damascus folder. The knives have ranged in style from traditional to gentleman's tactical. For 2011, they chose a design from Mississippi knifemaker Jim Burke that he calls the "Thorn". The "Thorn" exhibits the traits of a tactical folder as well as the elegant, flowing lines you would expect of a gentleman’s knife.

The Raven has an aluminum handle is both featherweight and feather textured for ultra-light, slip free cutting. This feathered pattern radiates bi-directionally outward from the handle's center giving purchase to the palm when using a forward or backward cutting motion.

Each year, David Yellowhorse and Buck® produce several Yellowhorse-enhanced Buck knives. This year, they have limited the number of models to only two.

Originally established in 1960, Coltellerie Maserin is one of the ten or so top knife manufacturers in Maniago, the heart of knife manufacturing in Italy. Maserin, like the other top Maniago knife manufacturers, is uniquely positioned to produce some of the best-designed and best quality knives being made today.

The Resilience is a larger version of the Tenacious, the first in Spyderco's value folders made in China. The quality is similar to Japanese or American produced Spyderco® knives and the price is much lower.

Knife designed Jason Breeden creates odd-shaped, but amazingly functional blades. This round-tipped rescue blade with a sloping profile focuses the strength to the tip where a knife sees the most use.

The Military came about after someone asked Spyderco’s owner Sal Glesser, "If your son were going into the military, what folding knife would you send with him?" With that question in mind, Sal went to work on a new design. Since production launched in the 1990s, the Spyderco Military has been offered in several variations.

The SuperLeaf was designed in response to requests for a super-sized Spyderco leaf shaped blade. The SuperLeaf fills the order with its broad VG-10 plain edge flat-ground blade and black G-10 handle.

Custom knifemaker Bob Lum created a genesis fusing the ancient essence and design of a traditional Chinese fixed blade with features found in modern folding knives. The large Chinese folder has a flat-ground VG-10 blade with a spine swedge.

The Para-Military is a two-thirds sized version of Spyderco's long revered Military. For an updated twist, Spyderco has introduced a version with Digital Camouflage G-10 handle scales. The Zulu is a custom collaboration between Spyderco and Jens Anso, a talented knifemaker. A Popular Mechanics article inspired Danish teenage Jens Anso to take a drill press and power tools to an old metal file and make his first knife.

In 2007, CRKT® developed a line of knives specifically for emergency rescue and based them on CRKT® production models. For 2011, they have added the "Big Dog" M16 to the ER line. At the request of rescue professionals, CRKT has taken Kit Carson’s popular M16-14 and added a seat belt cutter to the flipper and a tungsten carbide window breaker to the butt. Automobile side windows shatter with one quick whack from the butt of the knife.

One thing has always been consistent in the international knifemaking community, and that is a sense of brotherhood and the willingness to share and encourage other members. One example of this is the friendship of Hawaiian knifemaker Ken Onion and Brazilian knifemaker Flavio Ikoma. Ken has encouraged use of the Ikoma Korth ball bearing pivot system on his CRKT knives and also counseled Flavio on the directions some of his designs might take.

For many years G. Sakai has been one of Japan's top knife manufacturers. They have made knives for many of the top brands as well as their own branded knives. In the United States, the G. Sakai brand has not been widely available. We found this unusual little Gentleman's folder interesting and think you will as well. The knife is being produced for the Japanese market with several different materials for the handle inlays. We have chosen to offer it with black lip pearl.

The ceramic blade is created by compacting Zirconia powder under extremely high pressure, then firing it using a process similar to that used in the firing of any other type of ceramic material. This material is very hard, measuring 8.5 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, compared to 6 - 6.5 for hardened steel.

Newton Martin is a young knifemaker from Texas, known for rugged fixed blades, who recently started designing and making folding knives as well. His model "Nopal" got its name from the Texan word for the cactus plant, whose leaves replicate the shape of the closed knife.

For years, Goldie has wanted to produce this Dozier Trapper pattern. We have worked unsuccessfully with a couple of manufacturers, but in each instance they were unable, or unwilling, to produce the Dozier style lock with the exacting tolerances necessary, opting to simply use a liner style lock that they were already using on other knives. In the years it has taken us to find a factory that would produce the knife to our specifications, Bob has improved the lock design and we have applied for a patent. This is a lock that stops on a flat line tab, able to stand up to the battering to which we knife nuts subject our knives.
