Buck®'s creation of a limited production of the Paradigm folder is a logical move in my opinion. First offered in 2010, the Paradigm introduced Buck's new Shift Mechanism™, a locking mechanism that is controlled by a rotating bolster.

Spyderco's® Ladybug 3 has been a best-seller for years. Clip-less and designed for carrying on a keychain but unlike most keychain knives it s a serious working tool.

The Böker Merlin, made in Böker's factory in Solingen, is an interframe folder with a rosewood inlay. The design is from Wilfried Gorski, custom knifemaker and member of the German Knifemakers' Guild. Gorski is well known in Europe for his new ideas in knife construction, the precision of his work and the elegance of his design.

The same contemporary styling, smooth flowing profile and all around fresh design of the original Ripple is now available with aluminum handles (instead of stainless steel) at about half the price. The aluminum handles are anodized black and then hand buffed to expose the bright aluminum, creating an attractive, randomized pocket worn look to the handles.

Designed by Romanian Technical Manager Alexandru Diaconescu, this knife has a unique comfortable shape. Motivated by his son who was asking for his first pocketknife, Diaconescu created a folder with a prominent handle-guard.

The Subrosa was designed by custom knifemaker Matthew Lerch. Utilizing Benchmade's monolock with titanium handles, this is the first knife they have offered with their Nitrous assist mechanism.

Featuring a blade made from S30V stainless steel with a hardness of 58-60 Rc.

The Maserin® Trigger was designed by Claudio Riboni with a very interesting locking and lock release system based on a centuries old Sicilian knife. The name comes from the lock release mechanism. To release the lock, simply press down on the lever on the obverse side of the handle, and the blade is released.

The Aegis Mini has maintained the same features of the larger version, including SOG's patented assisted technology, (S.A.T.), just in a smaller size. Just move the blade toward the open position about 20 degrees and let the assisted opening mechanism finish the action.

One of the trends in factory knives over the past several years is unique locking systems. We have seen the Bolt Action, the Frame Lock, the Glide Lock, the Fulcrum, the Button Lock and many more. The latest craze seems to be locks that are actuated by moving the bolster in some way.

The Buck® Paradigm combines Buck's new Shift Mechanism™ and ASAP™ technology to create an assisted opening knife with a new and unique safety. The Shift Mechanism makes use of a rotating bolster to keep the blade from accidentally opening or closing.

Tom Hitchcock, an industrial engineer from Talent, OR, began the design of the Hole In One with the perimeter frame, which is a single piece of 420J2 stainless steel, formed to fit the hand. The blade shape and size, which can only be called a "Hitchcock blade", was dictated by that handle shape.

CRKT® liked the concept of the pendant/money clip knife and worked with Boyd to create a production Ashworth Turtle™ series. This is a useful knife suited to hundreds of daily tasks from clipping recipes to opening packages or sharpening pencils.

The Pistol Grip, designed by Canadian custom Knifemaker Greg Lightfoot, is a testament to his approach to knife engineering: the best material, precision manufacturing equipment and engineer each component so every feature performs flawlessly. Its unusual styling is typical of a Lightfoot design.

The Robin's intermediate size makes it a winning crossover for both office or weekend carry.

For the past 35 years, I have been designing knives and having them made by makers (both handmade and production) in all parts of the United States as well as in Solingen, Germany, Poland and Seki City, Japan. There have been several dozen companies, large and small, but never have I had another company go from pencil drawing (or ball point on a paper napkin) as fast as our colleagues in Italy. They take my sketch, fax me a formal drawing and on approval make a prototype.

The Kit Carson designed M16 knives from CRKT keep showing new faces. Three of them appear in desert dress as "Operation Iraqi Freedom" tactical folders. All blades are marked "Operation Iraqi Freedom".

The JYD II is just what the name implies, heavy-duty performance without a lot of frills. It utilizes a new one-handed opening system, use your index finger on the flipper and a quick flick of the wrist and the knife will open both smoothly and quickly for either hand.

This 1990 Knife Collectors Club offering, is a unique knife in several ways. Probably the most unusual thing about it is the way the large blade unlocks. In 1988 or 1989, I was shown an old knife which made use of this locking system and I was immediately intrigued. There are very few two bladed knives with a locking blade.

This is the high-end. We use the same materials that you will find in handmade knives which sell at much, much higher prices.

This remarkable knife was inspired by a knife designed by Blackie Collins in the 1960s or early in the 70s which was very much a two handed knife. Ed Van Hoy has added a remarkable opening and closing device that turns this one into a "One Hand Knife." He has also totally redesigned the blade to bring it into the 21st Century. At the 2002 Knifemaker's Guild show, we selected Ed's handmade knife to receive our "Most Innovative Folder" award.
