These Ladder Damascus and Abalone knives are the final four in Bear's® Custom Heritage series. The series of four variations of four models was introduced in early 2011 and the previous three versions have been released one-by-one throughout the last half of the year.

Two versions were created with carbon Damascus blades and two with stainless blades.

The series is divided into four parts with the same four folders being repeated in different handle materials and blade steels in each group of four.

These four knives are the third release in the Bear Cutlery's 2011 Custom Heritage Series. They feature 440A stainless blades and Caramel Gunstock Bone handle scales.

The inspiration for Bear and Son Cutlery's Custom Heritage Series was a photograph of Ken Griffey's (owner of Bear Cutlery) grandfather holding an old Robeson knife. Ken decided to reproduce some of those old knives his Grandfather owned and loved.

The 2009-2010 Transition series was created by Bear to highlight the change of their tang stamp from the dots that were used during the past decade to the new 2010 tang stamp with stars instead of the dots. The stars are Bear’s salute to their American Made tradition.

Serial numbers 1 through 50 of the Bear and Son’s Transition Series have been reserved for members of the Knife Collectors Club™ and A. G. Russell™ customers, with the first opportunity to purchase offered through this mailing to Knife Collectors Club members.

The series contains some of the patterns made in the 24 years of knife making at the Bear and Son facility in Jacksonville, Alabama. There are a total of 12 patterns to be shipped in 4 increments. Only 250 of each knife will be produced making this an extremely limited series. We have reserved the first 50 of each model.

Bear & Son® Cutlery introduced their Custom Heritage Series in 2007 with Ladder Pattern Carbon Damascus and genuine India Stag handle scales. At the 2009 S.H.O.T. Show, they showed us their newest Baby Bowie pattern, with a blade that measures only 3-1/2".
