All components receive a tough tactical black coating. The Flipper can be used for fast one-hand opening, and creates a blade guard when open.

Over the past 10 years CRKT has produced Kit Carson's popular M16® line in many variations. The Zytel version has been the most popular of all. These knives have been built for function and are an exceptional value.

Their M16 ZLEK line uses the very successful InterFrame construction, with textured Zytel scales over a stainless steel liner and solid Zytel back spacers. For professional use, they have added a seat belt cutter to the Carson Flipper, and a tungsten carbide window breaker at the butt.

In 2007, CRKT® developed a line of knives specifically for emergency rescue and based them on CRKT® production models. For 2011, they have added the "Big Dog" M16 to the ER line. At the request of rescue professionals, CRKT has taken Kit Carson’s popular M16-14 and added a seat belt cutter to the flipper and a tungsten carbide window breaker to the butt. Automobile side windows shatter with one quick whack from the butt of the knife.

This M16 Big Dog shares a unique design that offers combination of Carson M16 Series features requested by military procurement specialists. The dual grind Tanto blades were specified because they offer maximum strength.

As soon as they saw the first sketches, Columbia River knew they should offer it in two sizes similar to the "Little Bulldog" and "Big Dog".

All knives in this series are equipped with clip options that allow four-position carry on belts or webbing--tip up, tip down, left or right. (Caution: These knives are not designed for tip-up in-pocket carry.)

After the success of the process of developing our new line of Carson special forces G10 M16® and M21™ models, it became apparent that there was a demand for these models from coalition forces serving in desert environments.

These knives share a unique design offering a combination of Carson M16 Series features requested by military procurement specialists. The dual grind Tanto blades were specified because they offer maximum strength. The open build allows two Carson Flippers to be incorporated, resulting in a true hilt - very rare in folding knives.

Production versions of Kit Carson's titanium build M16s are now available from CRKT. Kit Carson, designer of the M16 Series, became famous for his custom titanium frame M16s.
