A.G. Russell Knives

D'Holder made his first knife in 1966 and sold it for a whopping $8.00. He joined the Knifemaker's Guild in 1973 and, beginning in 1976, served on the board of director's cumulatively for 19 years. D' is truly a cornerstone of the knife community. His specialty is fancy using knives, featuring top grade materials and a steadfast work ethic.

Randy is now a full time maker and attends about six shows a year. A serious hunter, Randy field-tests all of his designs.

The Gent's Hunter is a knife that we first introduced in 1989. Over the years the basic design has been produced in three different variations. That first version was handmade with a 440C blade. The second version was also handmade, but with an ATS-34 blade. Both were marked simply A. G. Russell™.

The Trailing Drop Point Hunter is the last in Canal Street Cutlery's series of five knives - four folders and one fixed blade - representing North American Trophy animals. These include the white tail and the elk released in the October 4th KCC brochure, the ram's horn in the October 26th brochure and the mule deer in the first November brochure. All five models are a classic pattern and feature handle scales of the trophy animal for which the knife is named.

The Roper® Raider Damascus Hunter is a traditional style hunting knife with a full-tang and a 3" blade of 35 layers of Damascus steel on each side of a core of 8Cr13MoV stainless at 55 Rc. The handle is stag.

Ka-Bar's history goes back to the Tidioute Cutlery Company, which was founded in Pennsylvania in 1898. Out of the failure of that company, the Union Razor Company was formed in 1902. The name was changed again in 1909 to Union Cutlery Company then moved to Olean, New York in 1910.

The Dog's Head Trailing Point Hunter is one of five Dog's Head models being introduced this year by Ka-Bar with Reclaimed American Chestnut handle scales.

In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, Camillus Cutlery, no longer in business, produced some of his most popular designs. In late 2008, Ka-Bar began introducing some of those same designs.

Dietmar and I have been friends since he was a young Lieutenant in the German Army serving at a Texas base over 30 years ago. He came to me while on leave, I offered advice on knifemaking and we remained friends even though he returned to Germany. Dietmar has long been acknowledged as the finest maker of hunting and fighting knives in Europe.

In 2010, Columbia River Knife & Tool and Ken Onion worked together to offer a Limited Edition of the Onion Skinner. Ken says he spent over five years on the design of this knife, making dozens of custom skinners, which he gave to Alaskan hunting guides in exchange for their feedback. As the responses came back, he modified the design and sent out more knives.

Tom Krein is a bright young knifemaker with several years of experience working in both the A. G. Russell™ and Bob Dozier knife shops. He is a successful knifemaker and has several collaborations with knife manufacturers.

Keith Murr is a Northwest Arkansas maker who worked for a period of time in Bob Dozier's shop. Even before the time in the Dozier shop, Keith was making handmade knives. He began in 1987, in much the same way lots of makers do: making knives from saw blades.

Ed Van Hoy is a multi-award winning knifemaker who has been forging stainless Damascus for many years. Along with his wife Tanya, the Van Hoys produce exquisite fixed blade knives and their own handmade leather sheaths.

The Personal Utility was Bob's choice for constant wear. This is an adaptation of the Dozier Personal Knife, introduced in our Spring 1994 Catalog.

These two unusual fixed blade knives designed by knifemaker Jesper Voxnaes of Denmark are part of the Böker Plus® line. Both designs have already enjoyed success as handmade custom pieces both overseas and in the U. S. Each is compact, but built to withstand heavy use.

Russell™ Exclusive, we have chosen carefully selected Exterior Ram's Horn for handle scales with a coined nickel silver Canal Street shield.

Bob Dozier's knives have become some of the most popular handmade knives in the country. The Arkansas Made Dozier fixed blade hunting knife is a bare bones knife designed as a simple, highly functional knife for the serious user.

For our first offering in the A. G. Russell™ catalog, we have chosen Arno's Small Drop Point Hunter with Warthog Tusk handle scales and his Medium Drop Point Hunter with Rams Horn handle scales.

The Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep and the Desert Big Horn Sheep complete Browning’s Full Curl Sheep Series of four knives designed by commercial hunting guide and knifemaker Russ Kommer. The first two in the series were the Dall Sheep and the Stone Sheep.

Keith Murr is a Northwest Arkansas maker who worked for a period of time in Bob Dozier's shop. Customers have been responding well to a little knife he calls the Companion.

This version of the knife that Northwest Arkansas knifemaker Keith Murr calls the Companion is small and unobtrusive but provides all the cutting edge you need for most tasks.

Terry Renner, custom knifemaker and owner of TR Blades in Palmetto, Florida, is becoming well known for his high-end folders and art knives. But he has a fertile mind, and the idea for the Neckolas came while he was toying with an index-finger-ring folder design. The result is the Renner Neckolas™ knife/sheath system.

This handsome handle material, a black Rucarta™, is very strong and very durable. Bob has chosen to use it on his Slim Outdoorsman.

The Elite Skinner™ Series consisted of four exciting new skinners. Series I consisted of two fixed blade knives with deep bellied skinner blades, one with a guthook. Both with Olive Wood handle scales. Most interesting are the two knives in Series II. These are folders, but Remington® designed a carrying system (sheath) that allows them to be carried either as a folder or as a fixed blade.

Dietmar Kressler has long been acknowledged as the finest maker of hunting and fighting knives in Europe. He recently presented me with a small integral drop point with a very neat recessed slot for a leather thong. I felt that the blade was the weak part of the design so I re-designed the blade to the one you see here.

We have re-designed the Hunter Scalpel making it a miniature of the full sized Deer Hunter, which has a 4" blade. The same Thumbolt® sheath design patented by Blackie Collins and assigned to A. G. Russell™ Knives is used by both these knives as well as the A. G. Russell™ Bird & Trout.

The TDI Law Enforcement Knives are designed for Low-Profile or concealed carry. Designed by John Benner, owner of Tactical Defense Institute, as an "off-hand" knife that draws like a pistol, it can be used very efficiently as a "last-option" defense.

The Bob Dozier Yukon Pro Skinner with Black Micarta® handle and horizontal belt sheath is a knife for the serious hunter, the man who makes his living in the woods. Instead of the traditional leather sheath that would over time get limp and rot, Bob builds precisely fitted sheaths of Kydex® for each knife.

We offer this hunter in two styles, a drop point blade and a gut-hook. The gut-hook was invented by Sid Bell, "The Alaskan Silversmith," who took his whittled model to Alaskan knifemaker Merle Seguine about 40 years ago. Buck's gut-hook is a somewhat different pattern and has been patented and trademarked. The "Zipper" has a near square shape and should be easier to sharpen, it also should cut hides of almost any thickness.

The Deer Hunter and the Bird & Trout were an entirely new concept including blade, handle and sheath. The blades are just thick enough to be stiff rather than flexible and are ground very thin all the way to the edge, creating a marvelous cutting tool.

I designed this little knife in the late 70's. It was intended to be a light weight knife for the casual hunter, out for a morning walk in the woods.

Randy has been making knives using the stock removal method for about 20 years. A protégé of D'Holder.

If you have been a customer very long, you have seen knives from Randy Lee before. He is one of the most popular knifemakers we have featured. Randy made his first knife in a high school shop class. He remained fascinated and years later, after studying with local makers, he decided to get serious and buy the proper equipment; this was 1979. It was 1988, however, before he attended his first knife show. Since then he has attended about six shows a year. A serious hunter, Randy field tests all of his designs. He wants them to work as well as they look. He is fortunate to have a wife who can make and decorate such fine sheaths. His sheaths are definitely a step above what is typical on knives of this price level.

In the hands of an expert, a great knife for dressing deer. Sized for small game, it is the perfect for everyday wear. Measures 6-3/4" tip to butt with 3" drop point blade of .060 thick D2 at 60-62 Rc. or AUS-8 at 57-59 Rc. Black fiberglass reinforced nylon sheath and handle. Weighs 1.9 oz. Made in Japan.

The Activator is a personal drop point designed by Mike Snody and made by Benchmade of D2 Tool steel at 59-61 Rc. The blade measures just over 2-1/8" long, 1" wide and 1/8" thick.

Both the Mini Alpha Hunter and the Alpha Dorado are enhanced with rare African Giraffe Bone for handle scales. Giraffe bone is the hardest and densest bone known to knife making.

This is the drop point blade carried to its ultimate conclusion. A knife suited to the skinning of any animal on this or any other continent. The 3-1/2" by 1-1/8" blade of D2 at 60-61 Rc. will flay everything from a small whitetail to a 20 foot salt water crock with the same ease, and will hold an edge beyond your experience. Bob Dozier's personal heat-treat of D2 is fast becoming legendary among knife aficionados (those of us who love knives and great edge holding).

To most of the people reading this catalog Bob Dozier's knives speak for themselves. The D2 high-carbon, high-chrome tool steel, hardened to 60-62 Rockwell, really holds an edge and the Dozier Kydex® sheaths that are molded to each knife hold the knife until the owner removes it with the magic release that Bob has designed into it.

Bob's concept of a personal knife is a knife that can be carried day in and day out; a knife that is never in the way but is always instantly available.

John Benner, founder of Tactical Defense Institute, designed the TDI Knife. Using his experience as a 30-year veteran Police Lt. and Vietnam Veteran, he has designed a knife with law enforcement officers in mind.

With an overall profile no larger than a credit card, it measures about a 1/2" longer; this knife can be concealed just about anywhere. Lace it up in your boots, pin it under a tactical vest strap, or use the enclosed lanyard cord to hang it around your neck.

Bob Dozier has been one of America's foremost makers of handmade knives since about 1968. He makes some of the finest and most practical handmade knives you'll find. For many years, Bob made highly finished knives for sale to the public while making reasonably priced knives for his fellow iron-workers.
