Tony Bose is, like Bob Loveless, a force of nature. He enjoys a degree of success with his superlative handmade slipjoint and lockback pocketknives that has literally made him a legend in his own time. A shy, quiet, unassuming person, he is a pleasure to talk to if you can get him to open up.
This is the ninth collaboration between Tony and the one hundred plus year old W. R. Case® Cutlery Company of Bradford, PA. For this ninth knife, Tony has chosen a very popular pattern from the old Cattaraugus line; the Swell Center (Coke Bottle) Folding Hunter with Swing Guard. This 5-1/2" closed pattern was popular with most knife companies of the 19th Century but few made them with the swing guard and none were as well made as this current interpretation.
Only 1,000 total of these knives will be made, 100 in Mother-of-Pearl (the unbelievably large piece of pearl makes this one quite expensive), 100 in Abalone, 300 in Antique Bone, 200 in Ebony, and 300 in Brown Bone. First to deliver will be the Ebony and Brown Bone. The different handle materials will be delivered over the next two to three months. If you want to go ahead and reserve one of the other handle materials, we have listed them below for your convenience.
The liners, bolsters, caps and guard are stainless steel, the shield is nickel silver. The 4-1/16" clip point blade is ATS-34 at 57-59 Rc. A mid-lock folding hunter made this well is simply not available elsewhere at prices like these, a remarkable achievement. Measures 5-5/16" closed and weighs 6.4 oz. Made in the U. S. A.
