CRKT builds serious knives, engineered to perform on the job or in the field, year in and year out. They are practical, purpose driven designs created by some of the most innovative Knifemakers' Guild members and creative designers. The result is that the finest knife designs are now available to you for daily use at an affordable price.
The CRKT Guppie™ and Zilla-Tool™ were designed and engineered by Launce of Elemental Tools, LLC and Tom of Nonlinear Evolution Designs, LLC. They believe that thoughtful and functional design needs to be part of your daily life, and they think beyond the traditional to produce useful and striking work tools.
The Zilla-Tool™ Jr. is a response to requests for a smaller, lighter version of the full-size Zilla-Tool. Columbia River Knife and Tool® calls it the little monster. It is approximately 80% the size of the original Zilla, with a handle that measures a mere 5-1/4" making it handy to carry in the pocket or on the belt. It is still large enough to handle real work tasks.
In 2007, CRKT followed one of the most successful designs, the K.I.S.S. in modern knife history with the H.U.G.™. For 2008, they have made a tactical version with black non-reflective titanium nitride coating.
As you know, Barry Gallagher is one of the most acclaimed members of the Knifemakers' Guild, well known for his award-winning high-end custom art knives. So CRKT had a special challenge in producing Barry's Badger design at a quality level that would satisfy him, while keeping the price low enough to satisfy you.
The Guppie's™ adjustable wrench jaw opens to 1/2", making it a handy tool for light assembly and repair, and a very useful emergency tool in the home, office, or outdoors.
As a guide, and as an Alaskan, Russ Kommer is a no-nonsense guy who designs simple, functional knives. He uses his knives on every trip he guides, and the faster he can skin and dress the game, the more hunting time his party can get in. It's that simple. That Kommer knives are also graceful and well balanced is almost incidental.
This is definitely not your usual small utility knife. But it is not different just for the sake of being different. Mike Franklin has carefully thought this system out, resulting in a useful outdoor tool that is also a great value.
From the Manufacturer:
"Today's tactical fixed blade knives still resemble the first Bronze Age daggers of 4000 years ago, especially in their handle design. Michael Martinez, inventor of the Merlin® knife deployment system, didn't start out to redesign the fixed blade, but he explains, "We tested over 400 knives with the Merlin system, and I kept noticing how many knives, even expensive ones, didn't feel right, didn't have a grip that gave both control and comfort in the four fundamental tactical grips."
Horus is familiar to Egyptologists as the hawk-headed god, lord of the sky. As Canyon Lake, Texas, knifemaker Allen Elishewitz developed this design for Columbia River Knife & Tool® (CRKT®), similar in many ways to his larger custom Creedmore, we saw an aggressive hawk-like character in its crisp edges, facets and choils, hence the Horus™ name. It reminds us of an F-117 stealth fighter, too.
While the CRKT® L'il Guppie? is much smaller than the full-size Guppie, it is a surprisingly useful tool. In this minimal design, CRKT has managed to pack many functions including an adjustable wrench, knife, flat and Phillips screwdriver blades, bottle opener, carry carabiner and pocket/money clip.
This Ed Halligan design is an answer to requests for changes in the very popular CRKT® K.I.S.S.® knives. The result, the Slip K.I.S.S.® is the lightest full-size K.I.S.S. knife yet. It has a full 2-3/4" blade, but weighs only 1.8 ounces.
The Pazoda™ is a stylish frame-lock folder with a 2-5/8" premium 8Cr14MoV blade at 58-59 Rc., gray titanium nitride coated.
In Ancient Egypt, the scarab beetle represented resurrection and renewal, and was depicted in art and jewelry as a talisman of good fortune. Allen Elishewitz is an acclaimed young Canyon Lake, Texas, knifemaker who offers a surprising range of custom knives, many with Egyptian-themed names.
Custom knives are often set apart by the exotic materials they employ. So it should be no surprise that custom knifemaker Ron Lake was persistent in his desire that CRKT should do the same thing with the production Sentinel. Thanks to Ron, these models resemble customs, using premium materials throughout.
In 2007, Allen Elishewitz , the acclaimed Canyon Lake, Texas, knifemaker designed the CRKT® production version of his Anubis (the jackal-headed god of the underworld, according to ancient Egyptian mythology). For 2008, they have added the black-on-black "K" models with titanium nitride blade coating, plus black liners, bolsters, fasteners and removable clip.
The custom "Thomas C. Turtle" models, designed by Knifemakers™ Guild member Boyd Ashworth, have won back-to-back Best Miniature Folder awards at consecutive Blade Shows. With the exotic materials used, such as wooly mammoth, mother-of-pearl, fossil walrus, and gold, and the use of Boyd's own Damascus steels, you could speed close to four figures to own one.
The Drifter G10 is a locking liner folder with black G10 scales and a premium 2-7/8" 8Cr14MoV stainless steel drop point blade at 58-59 Rc. in a gray titanium nitride finish. It features an InterFrame build with stainless steel liners and a black stainless steel clip.
Those of you who are familiar with Allen Elishewitz's web site of exquisite custom knives will know that the production CRKT Pharaoh is very different from Allen's custom Pharaoh. Sorry for any confusion, but this is a unique design that incorporates many of Allen's themes and is well deserving of the title "king." You will look very hard to find a production knife in this price class that is anything like the Pharaoh, so it does stand a bit larger than life.
When Jon and Josh Graham of Graham Knives in Cleveland, Tennessee, developed their custom Graham Razel™ in 2001, most knife blades came to a single point. Not the Razel. It's a cross between a chisel and a razor with a knife handle. The result gives two useful Razor-Sharp™ edges, one for pushing or tapping, and the other for precise cutting. You also get two strong blade points. The Graham brothers have been very successful with their custom versions in a variety of sizes and styles.
Because Tom knows knives from his life as a meat cutter, professional knife sharpener, and designer of knives and Columbia River Knife & Tool® (CRKT®) exclusive Veff™ Serrations, he designed one of the most carefully thought-out fixed blades we have ever produced, even though it also has the lowest price of any knife in our catalog. He calls it the Marine Utility Knife (M.U.K.™).
When we thought we had seen every way possible to open a folding knife, Columbia River introduces the Kommer Fulcrum. To open the Fulcrum, simply press the left side of the frame down with your thumb. The blade swings out to the 90-degree position. Then pull the left side of the frame back, gripping with your index finger at the choil, and the blade continues to rotate open and lock in the open position. After a few openings, you can do it naturally in one continuous, fluid action. To close the Fulcrum, simply release the stainless steel locking liner. One-hand closing is also fast and easy.
Study aircraft history, and you find the name Thunderbolt connected both to the P-47 fighter and A-10 fighter-bomber. They are both invariably described as "large, rugged, dependable." Those words also fit Ron Lake?s new locking liner design for the Columbia River Knife & Tool® (CRKT®) Thunderbolt™.
The sleek, natural look of Barry Gallagher's Glide Lock from Columbia River Knife & Tool® depends on two very modern technologies. The first is the Glide Lock that relies on a sliding stainless steel mechanism hidden within one bolster. Slide the bolster out, and it creates a tang to rotate the blade open. Slide the bolster back and the blade is locked open. To close, slide the bolster out and rotate the blade closed with your index finger. Slide the bolster back to lock the Glide Lock closed. It's fast, lightweight, compact, and secure.
A.G.'s new Ringer™ series is about as minimal as knives can get. What makes these two-finger knives so unique is the small tang that A.G. has designed to give better grip and stability. Each comes with a custom-fitted Kydex® sheath and chain, which allows carry as a neck knife or in the pocket.
Tom Krein is a bright young knifemaker with several years of experience working in both the A. G. Russell and Bob Dozier knife shops. The Dogfish™ is his first design for a manufacturer.
Designed for Quality, Visibility and Affordability.
For 2007, CRKT has developed a line of knives specifically for emergency rescue. The knives are based on CRKT production models with brushed blade finished for tip corrosion resistance in wet environments and handle scales that are a highly visible orange Zytel®.
Russ Kommer, an Alaskan maker, designed a knife for his wife to carry in her purse. Every bush pilot, parachutist, and commercial fisherman who saw it wanted one and kept Russ with more work than he could finish. The answer to his problem was a joint venture with Columbia River Knife and Tool. This is a cutting tool that really gets into webbing, rope or netting. The blade comes either razor sharp or in an EMT style, with fully serrated edge and safety tip, just right for cutting away clothing from accident victims or cutting seat belts.
Bob Kasper, the late writer and combat instructor, designed the basic outline of the C/K Dragon and Pat and Wes Crawford developed the handle scales. The 4-1/2" full-tang blade has a tapered Wharncliffe grind for great penetrating power.
Both Triumph N.E.C.K.™ models are based on the same 1/8" thick blade of 3Cr13 stainless steel at 54-56 Rc. It is a full-tang skeletonized design, with a recurved grind on a 2-3/4" Tanto blade to aid cutting and a false top edge grind for penetrating. Overall length is 6-1/2".
For 2007, CRKT has developed a line of knives specifically for emergency rescue and are based on CRKT production models. The Hammond A.B.C. E.R. is a Jim Hammond design whose name stands for "All Bases Covered." The blunt-tipped A.B.C. E.R. is designed to fill all the needs of the scuba diver and whitewater enthusiast in a single knife. The bottom hollow ground Razor-Sharp edge is suited to fine cutting tasks.
Jim Hammond has All Bases Covered with this knife/sheath system. It's the ultimate dive and whitewater knife, with two sets of scales included.
Take Jim Hammond's A.B.C. concept, grind a powerful Tanto blade, and you have the perfect fixed blade system for emergency services and special forces.
The new MAK-1™ (Multiple Access Knife) and Extrik-8-R™ (Seat Belt Cutter and Multi-Tool) were created by James McGowan, who is a professional firefighter in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Due to his career in one of Canada's busiest fire halls and his passion for the outdoors, he started making "hard-working knives" and joined the Canadian Knifemakers' Guild in 1998.
Russ Kommer keeps coming up with ideas for high-value knives and tools that every hunter needs. CRKT calls this growing group of products The Kommer Collection. It includes a high-hollow ground skinner, a utility hunting knife and a unique chisel/sharpener.
After Russ Kommer makes a new knife, he takes it on the next hunting trip he guides and uses it on the heavy skinning of Alaskan moose, caribou and bear. If it works right, feels right, and holds its edge, Russ has another design in his book. If it doesn't, he takes it to his workshop and destroys it. Our new Signature Hunters started as Kommer customs and survived his field test. That's good enough for us at Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT).
These are classic knives for serious hunters, that you'll cherish and leave to your children. Maybe CRKT overdid it. It started when they told Alaskan knifemaker and hunting and fishing guide Russ Kommer that they wanted a series of premium classic hunters with stacked leather handles. He came back with these three functional (and graceful) designs. They are knives that you will use for skinning, caping and field chores, then clean and display proudly-for decades to come. Construction is the best CRKT can achieve, and they think it is unique.
Original design and pricing with modern steel... Be the first on your block to own an updated version of an old favorite. We are now taking orders for CRKT's production version of the A. G. Russell Sting™! Delivery is scheduled for mid-February. Because this is our design, we will be the first to deliver the knife.
These new Side Hawgs are a little different than the original in that they have a textured Zytel scales instead of a bare skeletonized handle and have a much sleeker look. Each knife has a 2-3/8" drop point blade and measures 5-1/2" tip to butt. Available in either satin finish or bronze titanium nitride coated finish.
Mike Franklin has been a full time knifemaker since 1973. His first CRKT design was the Serengeti Hunter which is a three knife folder - the main blade and then a separate skeletonized knife that attaches to each side of the handle.

CRKT's NEW Tactical Fixed Blade is a well thought out Combat/Utility Knife designed by CRKT's unnamed military consultants. They have selected this knife to represent them in their joint program with the AF Exchange System. It and the folders that follow are the most popular knives being sold to our troops in Iraq.
Several years ago, CRKT was asked to create a production fixed blade following the design traditions of Japanese swordsmithing for ceremonial and martial arts use. The result was the First Strike 2705. These knives quickly developed a following among Military and Special Services personnel leading CRKT to introduce a military version of the original knife with non-reflective black EDP blade and Olive Drab cord wrap early this year.
James Williams, the designer of the Hissatsu, is a former army officer and martial artist and current owner of Bugei Trading Company, a source of high quality Samurai swords.
This is a one-purpose blade with great slashing ability and exceptional penetration. Do not expect to be able to convince a judge or prosecutor that you were carrying this knife for hunting and skinning or for cutting carpet. It is a professional's knife for police or military.
When you pick up a Big Eddy Fillet knife, you'll immediately feel its balance and comfort. Big Eddy builds all the quality of the world's finest filleting knives at a remarkably fair price.
How do you follow one of the most successful designs in modern knife history? With a H.U.G.™.
Columbia River Knife & Tool's® original K.I.S.S.® has been one of the most popular knives ever sold in our catalog. For 2007, CRKT has taken that K.I.S.S.® to a new level. Ed Van Hoy, designer of the Snap Fire™, and Ed Halligan, designer of the original K.I.S.S.®, have worked together to develop the Two-Timer™. The most obvious change is the second blade.
The K.I.S.S.® and the P.E.C.K.® knives designed by Knifemakers Guild Member Ed Halligan have been some of our most popular knives. Since they were released, we have sold over 20,000 knives. Last year, in order to commemorate their 10th anniversary, CRK&T released an engraved version of the P.E.C.K. with mirror polished Spectral Titanium Nitride coating. It was such a hit; they are now offering the whole K.I.S.S. line with the same finish.
Ed Halligan has more K.I.S.S.es for you. Pucker up. The original series is now available in black Teflon® plating. Not only is black the most popular color in knives in recent years, but it has real functional value. It is less reflective and creates a protective barrier against corrosion. So it is only natural that we would offer Knifemakers' Guild Member and K.I.S.S. designer. Ed Halligan's creations in black dress.
After the tremendous success of the K.I.S.S. knife, CRKT surpassed themselves with their Delilah's P.E.C.K. It is significantly smaller, measuring only 2-5/8" when closed and weighing only 0.9 oz. Makes an ideal key chain knife or a simple, unobtrusive pocketknife.
This extraordinary design comes from Knifemakers' Guild member Ed Halligan. It is a complete knife with only half a handle, no liner just a split handle.
Award-winning custom knifemakers and Knifemakers' Guild member Ed Van Hoy has designed a number of hot sellers for Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT), but this one is On Fire. No really, that's its name, On Fire™, and it has all the right equipment to be a very popular personal knives.
This remarkable knife was inspired by a knife designed by Blackie Collins in the 1960s or early in the 70s which was very much a two handed knife. Ed Van Hoy has added a remarkable opening and closing device that turns this one into a "One Hand Knife." He has also totally redesigned the blade to bring it into the 21st Century. At the 2002 Knifemaker's Guild show, we selected Ed's handmade knife to receive our "Most Innovative Folder" award.
The Tiny Tighe Breaker is available with CRKT's patented OutBurst™ assisted opening mechanism, which instantly springs the blade fully open after you have manually opened the blade approximately 30 degrees. To maximize safety, CRKT built in the patented AutoLAWKS™ that automatically actuates when the folder is opened and locked, creating a virtual fixed blade.
The Mini My Tighe is a smaller version of the My Tighe which CRKT introduced in 2006.
The 3" blade is 1.4116 stainless at 55-57 Rc. with a high satin finish. In 2007, you will find a new style of serration on many CRKT knives. This is their exclusive Veff™ Serration designed by Tom Veff.
From the Manufacturer:
"Canadian knifemaker Brian Tighe is a true Renaissance Man, with an array of professional skills including tool and die making, metallurgy, engraving and photography. In his St. Catharines, Ontario, workshop, he produces a wide array of custom folders, all with those signature touches that immediately make them stand out as Brian Tighe knives.
Based on the Triumph custom models made by Pat Crawford, the production Triumph Folder is a large and formidable tactical knife designed for grip, with double finger choils, thumb friction grooves and deeply grooved G10 scales. The 420J2 stainless steel liners, one locking, are a hefty 0.1" thick.

The Hissatsu folder was designed at the request of customers who wanted a folder with the defensive power of the original Hissatsu, but could be concealed in a pocket or clipped comfortably under a jacket. It is meant to perform in environments that do not allow firearms or large fixed blade knives.
So finally, here is the production CRKT M4 that you can afford to carry every day, anywhere. And while is was being engineered, CRKT decided to add some more value by offering the patented OutBurst™ assisted opening as an option, and the patented AutoLAWKS™ which automatically actuates when the folder is opened and locked, creating a virtual fixed blade instantly for the ultimate in safety.
If you love the Carson line, but your work tasks demand a deep bellied blade, the M21 is the series for you. Same premium build, same functional features, same long life, same excellent value.
From the Manufacturer:
"After the success of our M16 Special Forces series, we received requests from professional knife users in the military and law enforcement for the larger "Big Dog" size with a more versatile blade shape. We talked to the designer of the series, retired Sergeant Major and Knifemakers' Guild member Kit Carson, and M21 SF is the result.
Special knives from CRKT for professional use. Designed with military special forces in mind, the M16-SFs are "folding fixed blades" with a true hilt.
From the Manufacturer:
"Kit Carson's M16® designs continue to be our most popular series, so it was only a matter of time that we filled out the line with a Zytel® InterFrame build version of his Every Day Carry (EDC). Our knife users told us, "The size of the aluminum build EDC is perfect, but I need a more affordable work knife that I can give hard use without feeling guilty, and one that won't break me up if I leave it on a job site or drop it in the river."
All the zip, oh wow, and features of Kit Carson's Big Dog M16s in a compact "every day carry". Responding to customer requests after the incredible success of Kit Carson's original M16 Series, CRKT has introduced the M16 Compact EDC (Every Day Carry). While CRKT was scaling down and refining the designs, they also decided to offer models with both black and British racing green handles, and with non-reflective black titanium nitride coated blades. CRKT have made the contoured handles long enough for real work tasks.
For 2007, CRKT has developed a line of knives specifically for emergency rescue and based them on CRKT production models.
From the Manufacturer:
"The new M16® Fire Department Zytel® models are designed to meet the special requirements of those in fire fighting. For strength, we use our rigid InterFrame build with 420J2 stainless steel liners. Scales are injection-molded Fire Engine Red Zytel, which is a tough, strong composite of fiberglass and nylon designed to handle the worst abuse. The scales are textured for good grip in wet conditions.
Kit Carson, designer of the M16 Series, became famous for his custom titanium frame M16s. True to Kit's custom design in all details, the production M16T models have been taken a step further with the addition of the patented Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS), which converts them into virtual fixed blades when engaged. The handles, which form the open-build frame, are CNC machined from 6AL4V titanium. The result is a better strength-to-weight ratio than steel or aluminum, and an almost indestructible frame. The frame is ceramic bead blast finished to enhance grip.
Kit Carson designer of the M16® Series, retired after 20 years as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army, in Combat Arms and Armor and Cavalry. He began making custom knives full time, and his custom titanium framed M16 quickly became a new performance standard.
From the manufacturer:
When we considered offering Kit Carson's very popular aluminum M16® design in a more affordable build, we turned to our very successful InterFrame construction.
Instead of aluminum handles, we use tough, textured Zytel® scales over a 420J2 stainless steel liner inter-frame.
Gary Paul Johnson knows what it's like to put your life on the line daily. He did it as a commander with the Shaker Heights Police Department, and tell the story of the creation of his 1* logo this way: "Back in 1986, my SWAT unit was fortunate during actual raids, but we seemed to average at least one minor injury per practice session. Other teams had similar problems, especially during SWAT competitions, so I decided to create something to remind everyone to be more careful. The idea for the 1* logo came from a joke I heard as a kid." The design of the logo is in a shield shape similar to the U.S. Army's Big Red 1. Gary has granted CRK&T the exclusive right to use his "1*" logo on special models of its knives.
Handmade knifemaker Kit Carson designed the M16 for CRKT and these knives have been a great success. Kit designed the M16 for function, get one in your hand and learn what he had in mind. These are knives that can be used with or without gloves.
Kit Carson has designed the M16 for function. Handle one and you will immediately know what that means. Notice the wide blade design for difficult tasks, the sure-grip contoured handle of 6061 T6 Hard Anodized Aluminum, for a comfortable grip with or without work gloves and the Stainless Steel locking liner with friction grooves, for positive locking with limited access for superior safety.
The service men and women of the coalition forces in the Middle East and Afghanistan require cutting tools that can stand up to the harsh demands of the desert. The Carson Desert Tactical Folders have been developed specifically to blend into the desert environment.
The Kit Carson designed M16 knives from CRKT keep showing new faces. Now three of them appear in desert dress as "Operation Iraqi Freedom" tactical folders. All blades are marked "Operation Iraqi Freedom".
This special Iraqi Freedom Desert Cruiser, designed by Jim Hammond, has a 5-1/4" desert tan Zytel® handle with a surface that CRKT copied from the late Rob Simonich, with permission. Two clips are provided so you can choose which of the 4 hard points to use for hanging your knife on pocket or gear, just as you want. The 3-3/4" blade of AUS-8 at 57-59 Rc. is coated with desert tan Titanium Nitride and marked "Operation Iraqi Freedom".
Jim Hammond's Desert Cruiser is one of the most advanced designs of its type. Designed to do its job and complete any mission. The knife of choice when the only easy day was yesterday.
From the Manufacturer:
We work with custom knifemakers like Greg Lightfoot, because frankly, they are never satisfied. They are always looking for perfection, to take their next design further. Greg has achieved a new level of performance in the production version of his M1® design, with a unique blade grind, asymmetrical contoured frame, deeply textured scales and a "Mako Flipper" blade guard, all aimed at improving grip and cutting power. Greg explains the blade: "It is a refined Tanto shape with a custom-style hollow grind, slight belly and recurve and a hint of a drop point. I call it a 'Millennium Tanto.' The false edge on the spine improves penetration while maintaining strength." The blade is premium AUS 8 stainless steel with titanium nitride non-reflective coating for superior corrosion resistance, with Razor-Sharp or Combination Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edges.
This knife is made in 2 sizes with two blade styles. Each knife is available in either red or blue inlays. CRKT commissioned custom knifemaker and Knifemakers' Guild Member Kit Carson to create the M18 after the phenomenal succes of his CRKT M16 models. But make no mistake - the M18 is not a dolled-up M16. It is a striking new lightweight design in its own right, powerful, well balanced and exceptionally finished.
Columbia River is excited to introduce their first group of production folders designed by noted Texas custom knifemaker and Knifemakers' Guild member Allen Elishewitz. Yes, they have that cool Elishewitz look at first glance, but look a little further and you discover Allen's incredible new E-lock (patent pending), made possible in a production folder by precision CNC machining.
Imagine the knife of the future: lightweight build, premium materials, a soft gray finish, CNC machined surfaces, a high tech lock, smooth one-hand action. Welcome to the future, because our new Elishewitz Starlight is a functional precision tool for today that would look at home in any starship.
The CRKT Convergence was designed by award winning custom knifemaker Aaron Frederick and introduced in 2004. The locking mechanism is unusual enough that CRKT finally gave up on producing it. After removing the knife from their line, CRKT offered the remaining stock to A. G. Russell™ Knives. A wonderful opportunity for our customers.
Koji Hara is noted for his custom folders in exotic materials, and is especially known for his carving of the handle material into a classic terraced landscape that he calls his "Air-Step" design. In 2000, we included two fixed blade knives with Koji's Air-Step design in the A. G. Russell™ catalog of knives. Those were the first made in quantity for the American market.
CRKT® has applied Koji's remarkable design sense to a small personal folder incorporating their patented Outburst™ assisted opening mechanism. The result is a small knife that gives good grip, fits the hand nicely, and is truly functional for a variety of work tasks. They call their first Koji series Ichi™, Japanese for "one".
CRKT calls it the Edgie™ because the edge is honed every time it is opened or closed. This first CRKT Edgie model was designed to be a simple, affordable utility knife with broad appeal.
From the Manufacturer:
"Look through the CRKT catalog, and you will see page after page of successful hunting and fishing knife designs by Knifemakers' Guild® member and Alaskan guide Russ Kommer, whose custom knife shop is now in Fargo, North Dakota. But Russ blew us away with his prototype for the Full Throttle™, which is definitely a rock-solid personal frame-lock folder."
This is a very fine rendition of a Bob Loveless Semi-Skinner blade made in AUS-4 at 55-57 Rc. Russ Kommer, like most modern knife designers, including myself, knows where to go for inspiration where blade shapes are concerned.
From the Manufacturer:
"In the beginning, just over a decade ago, CRKT made its name by offering a series of quality locking liner folders at remarkably competitive prices. We became known in the knife industry as the "value company," a distinction we are still proud to hold even though our line has expanded to include sophisticated high-dollar knives. Our approach has always been: never cut corners, just give a whole lot of knife for the money.
While CRKT® has achieved an enviable reputation for quality with manufacturing partners in Taiwan, U.S. federal law requires that assisted opening knives be made in the U.S.A. When they decided to build the Wild Weasel, it was necessary that they find a domestic manufacturer with a new, state-of-the-art plant that could match the manufacturing quality they get in Taiwan. You be the judge. If you already own and use CRKT knives, buy a Wild Weasel and compare.
From the manufacturer:
Since the original Rolox® was invented in 1975 by Blackie Collins, it has been an expensive cult knife that attracted an enthusiastic following. Unfortunately, production was very limited. After reaching an agreement with Rolox to manufacture the concept as a true production knife, we asked brilliant young Texas custom knifemaker Allen Elishewitz to redesign the original classic. The result was a production knife that has the smoothest Rolox action ever, with an entirely new look, and a price that put it in any pocket or purse.
This knife is Ron Lake's first knife designed around the liner-lock which was invented by his friend Michael Walker. This knife uses Ron's InterFrame patent, putting inlays into the solid metal of each side of the knife. It also has a remarkable version of the Lake-Walker-Knife-Safety (LAWKS) invented jointly by Lake and Walker.
From the manufacturer:
Jim Hammond's Cruiser series of customs seemed like an ideal starting point in our development of a high quality affordable lockback work folder. As the first custom knifemaker and Knifemakers' Guild member to work with Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT), he understood the translation necessary to arrive at our successful production Cascade Lockback.
CRKT has translated Jim Hammond's custom design into possibly the most comfortable, useful and affordable lockback possible. The 3-1/2" blade is a Hammond modified clip point, hollow ground from AUS-6M stainless steel at 55-57 Rc. with a bead blast finish. For maximum comfort, safety and hold, the handle consists of a rigid, injection molded high-impact polycarbonate frame with a soft, comfortable diamond patterned injection molded Kraton grip.
This feature packed tactical knife, designed by writer and knife use instructor Bob Kasper and knifemaker Pat Crawford, is a serious self-defense folder built to satisfy under the most serious situations. Thick stainless liners covered with black Zytel® scales give this knife a very hefty feel. A thumb scallop on each side leads to the thumb stud for easier opening and more secure grip.
A high quality folder at an affordable price, the CRKT Mo'Skeeter is tough enough for any job. Made from a one-piece molded Zytel® handle for sure grip and lightweight pocket carry. Dual thumb studs and a removable reversible pocket clip makes it one of the few truly ambidextrous knives.
Jim Hammond has designed a handsome and effective folder with a deeply swedged clip point blade with dual thumb studs for ambidextrous opening and a handle intended for extremely secure grip. The design is beautifully executed. Suited for dress carry or for the workman who wants his work knife to be exceptional.
Columbia River's new 14k Summit series utilizes their powerful InterFrame locking liner construction. Combined with the "skeletonized" scales of nickel chrome plated zinc alloy, this open construction makes your knife easily cleaned and reduces weight.
George Matheis, known professionally as Mercop, is one of those big, burly cops who command your respect instantly. As a certified weapons instructor at the state and federal level, he is a fan of inverted fixed-blade carry in Kydex® or Zytel® detented sheaths for emergency self-defense. But most harnesses are complex, bulky and uncomfortable. Neck chains require a tie-down to position the knife.
The Slide Sharp™ uses a unique system of injection molded nylon guides to hold the knife edge at the specific angle required for optimum sharpening. A hardwood base holds a porcelain sharpening rod. Simply insert the rod in the base, slide a return spring over it, select the sharpening guide needed for your knife, and add the cap. Then pull your blade through the sharpening guide slot pressing down lightly. The return spring pops the guide up again for the next stroke. Repeat the same action as needed in the opposite slot, sharpening both sides of the blade equally, or as needed.
