Mike Franklin has been a full time knifemaker since 1973. His first CRKT design was the Serengeti Hunter which is a three knife folder - the main blade and then a separate skeletonized knife that attaches to each side of the handle. His CRKT Side Hawg™ family of knives is equally surprising. They are a group of minimal and functional single-side knives of high 420J2 stainless steel at 54-56 Rc. with Zytel® sheath plates and carabineer lanyard.
These new Side Hawgs are a little different than the original in that they have a textured Zytel scales instead of a bare skeletonized handle and have a much sleeker look. Each knife has a 2-3/8" drop point blade and measures 5-1/2" tip to butt. Available in either satin finish or bronze titanium nitride coated finish. The sheath plate is a single flat lightweight piece of Zytel with a stainless steel post and saddle clip. The knife is held securely by placing its locator hole over the post, then rotating the knife down into the saddle clip. The precise fit of the flat-ground side, plus security ridge seal the cutting edge to the frame. Can be carried as a neck knife, flat in you pocket or attached by the included carabineer with swiveling nylon strap to D-rings or belt loops. Weighs 1.0 oz. Made in China.
