Mike Franklin has been a full time knifemaker since 1973. His first CRKT design was the Serengeti Hunter which is a three knife folder - the main blade and then a separate skeletonized knife that attaches to each side of the handle.
His CRKT Side Hawg™ family of knives is equally surprising. They are a group of minimal and functional single-side knives of high-carbon stainless with Zytel® sheath plates and carabiner lanyards.
These two new Side Hawgs™ are a little different than the first in that they have a textured Zytel® scale instead of the bare skeletonized handle, weigh less, have more cutting edge and a longer, sleeker look. Can be carried as a neck knife, flat in your pocket or attached by the carabiner and swiveling nylon strap to D-rings, belts, or belt loops.
The Sheath Plate is a single flat lightweight piece of Zytel® with stainless steel posts and saddle clips. The knife is held securely by placing its locator hole over the post, then rotating the knife down into the saddle clip. The precision fit of the knife's flat-ground side, plus a molded security ridge, effectively seal the cutting edge to the frame.
