This Ed Halligan design is an answer to requests for changes in the very popular CRKT® K.I.S.S.® knives. The result, the Slip K.I.S.S.® is the lightest full-size K.I.S.S. knife yet. It has a full 2-3/4" blade, but weighs only 1.8 ounces.
The 3Cr13 high-carbon steel blade at 52-55 Rc. at first glance looks like any other flat-ground drop point blade with a nail nick for opening. But it is unusual in that the grind is nearly flat on the back--similar to other K.I.S.S. family designs. Ed has removed everything but the bare essentials. For example, the classic slip-joint pocketknife usually has a steel frame with full-length brass liners. Ed minimized the stainless steel frame, and riveted on two small brass liners to locate the blade laterally. For proper blade/frame alignment, Ed had to put a unique bend in the frame that creates a deep finger choil for grip. As a final touch, the frame is engine turned, like the firewall on a vintage Bugatti Type 37 racer. Finally, for comfort and extra grip, he added two carefully contoured scales that are injection molded from a strong, lightweight composite with a translucent abalone shell appearance
No, the Slip K.I.S.S. is not a heavy-duty work knife, but if you want a great lightweight pocketknife at a great price, with lots of style this might be the knife for you. Weighs 1.6 oz. Made in China. Suggested retail is $19.99.
