In only about twenty years, Leatherman Tools have gone from a young engineer with an idea searching for customers and money to build a factory, to the largest multi-tool producing company in America. There is a manufacturer within the knife industry that may be larger, but at least a third of their product comes from China and Taiwan. For the past twenty years, the only knives Leatherman has made have been those in their tools. In 2005, they decided to join SOG®, Buck®, Gerber® and others and make knives as well as tools. Their first move into the knife market was to introduce six knives in two levels of quality and price. Two are lockbacks and four are liner style locks. Four have blades of 154CM and 2 have blades of 420HC. Leatherman's move into the knife business is a natural. I am surprised that they did not make this move long ago.
The basic Leatherman liner style lock with Blade Launcher™. Measures 3-7/8" closed with a 2-3/4" blade of 420HC at 57-59 Rc. Zytel® handle with rubber inserts. Carabineer/cap lifter and removable pocket clip. Weighs 3.1 oz. Suggested retail is $40.00.
