A. G. Russell American Bicentennial Knife

Limited Quanities

When I bought the tiny Hen & Rooster firm in 1975, among the many things I found was a coffin shaped handle. This knife had not been made in years and was bladed in a way odd to an American eye.

A. G. Russell Knife/Money Clip

Limited Quantities

Fine rosewood inlay in a stainless frame with pen blade and a nail file.

A. G. Russell Knife Collectors Club Knives

This was the last knife made by the little Bertram factory before I lost it in 1980. It is absolutely the finest quality production folding knife available today. Compare it to knives made by custom makers.

A. G. Russell™ American Hobo oiled ram's horn

On a dealer's table at the 2006 Blade Show, we found and purchased an antique Hobo knife that was the most elegant I had ever seen. The mark was Ostdiek Co. Minneapolis, one I had never seen before. I have checked with many dealers and collectors in the pocketknife portion of this industry and have found no one who knows anything about that company. It is my belief that the knife was produced in the late 1800s or early 1900s.

A. G. Russell™ American Rider's Knife

No one needs to convince a horse person of the necessity of carrying a hoof-pick. If you ride, you know that it is an absolute must. Is there a finer gift for your horse person" Well, maybe a handmade saddle, in which case may we suggest that you have a pocket put on the saddle for one of these knives.
We have improved our American Rider's Knife by doubling the thickness of the hoof-pick to better protect the tender parts of the horse's hoof.

A. G. Russell CM-7 .45 Long Colt

In 1979, Hen & Rooster and A. G. Russell produced the CM-7, the .45 Long Colt which was the first knife designed entirely by me for Hen & Rooster to make.

A. G. Russell™ Gent's Pocket Carver

The Pocket Carver was first introduced in 2006 as the Knife Collectors Club 35th Anniversary Knife. This is a Reverse Congress pattern like no other Reverse Congress you have seen. There are no sharp corners, all edges have been softened to create a knife that feels easy in your hand or pocket. While the blades are a Spey and a Sheepfoot, each blade is wider and longer and makes maximum use of the entire length of the handle resulting in shapes that are more up-to-date in look and function. We have reengineered all parts of the knife.

A. G. Russell Hen & Rooster Baby Barlow

There were only 1,800 CM-4's with Ivory scales made. Of the Model 104, there were to be 1,000 sets produced, each containing five different handle materials. Unfortunately, there were only 200-300 of the 104 Pearl and 400 of the Cattle Horn knives finished before the bankruptcy. The entire 1,000 were produced in each of the three handle materials on this page. In the twenty years since we lost the Bertram (Hen & Rooster) Firm, most of the Model 104 knives have been sold.

A. G. Russell Hen & Rooster Model 274

In 1865, C. R. Bertram founded a small cutlery firm in Solingen, Germany that was fated to become for a brief period, the maker of the very finest pocketknives in the world. Herr Bertram set out to make the very best pocketknives.

A. G. Russell Premium Scout Knife

The A. G. Russell Premium Scout Knife is a unique scout knife. The main blade is 154CM high carbon stainless tool steel at 59-61 Rc. and the handle scales are Brown Jigged Bone or Genuine India Stag.

A. G. Russell Sailor's Knife

In November 1990, we introduced the A. G. Russell Sailor's Knife, produced for us in Japan. We chose Rucarta for the handle scales and AUS-8 stainless for the blade steel to create a knife that will withstand either fresh or salt water. This is not my design, but my revision of an old one.

A. G. Russell™ Sailor's Knife with Natural Bone

In ages past, sailors almost always carried knives that were hafted with bone or exotic wood. Our modern version is truly a working Sailor's knife. The serrated blade makes fast work of cutting rope, the oval eye in the blade makes opening easier when your hands are wet and cold.

A.G. Russell™ Slip Joint Folders

Please look closely at these knives. I have redesigned all three blades in both knives and think that the new shapes will be as exciting to you as they are to me. In the past 75-100 years, no one has taken the time and trouble to do what we are doing with pocket knives.

A. G. Russell Ultimate Pen with Bolsters and Scales

We produced the Ultimate Pen Knife because a knife this small hasn't been produced for many years and never previously with Titanium scales or VG-10 blade steel. This is the most PC knife you can imagine. It is so small, it will not offend anyone.

A. G. Russell Ultimate Pen Knives

We have decided to produce several knives that are specially marked to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. The first of these is the second version of the A. G. Russell Ultimate Pen Knife.

Boker Stag Handled Pocketknives

Buck Sambar Stag Folders

For their 2007 series of limited edition stag handled folders, Buck® has chosen three of their classic pocketknife designs, the Companion, Cadet, and Ranger. Böker Small Four Blade Congress Green Bone

The bone handle scales on this small Four Blade Congress look a little different than what we traditionally expect in jigged bone. Böker® has devised a new jigging pattern that gives the impression of a spiral of bone wrapping around the handle of the knife. The knife itself is a little unexpected as well.

Böker - Double Tree Large Copperhead

Ernst Felix, owner of Böker® says that the tree as Böker's trademark is as old as the company - 138 years. A real chestnut tree growing close to the plant gave Heinrich Böker® the idea to choose this symbol for quality.

Canal Street Moon Pie Trapper With Amber Stag Bone

Yes, it is an unusual name for a knife. When we asked Wally Gardiner, President of Canal Street Cutlery where the name came from, he told us "because the extra large cap on the knife looks like a half moon." It is a beautiful knife, put together with the attention to detail and fine finish you have become accustomed to from Canal Street Cutlery.

Curly Zebrawood is a new handle material for Case®. It is a beautiful wood that is so named because of the zebra-like stripes that run through it. Case Hobo with Spoon

The Hobo is a really old design. It actually began as an eating knife and a spike for lifting morsels, sheathed with a larger knife. The next step was to put a fork and a knife in a folder. Then they worked out methods of separating them. No one knows how long ago that was, only that it followed the invention of forks. I have seen really old ones with two tines. I have also seen them with spoons almost as big as ladles.

The look and feel is classic, the materials modern.

Cattaraugus Copperlock

In the United States of 1880, the cutlery industry was dominated at the high end by the great English houses, of Joseph Rogers, Wostenholm and their closest competitors. At the low end by the makers of Germany and Bohemia with the American knife companies filling the middle space. In that year, John B. F. Champlin conceived the idea of an American firm making only the highest quality pocketknives and taking for America the banner of best quality knives.

A. G. Russell Knife Collectors Club Knives

This 1990 Knife Collectors Club offering, is a unique knife in several ways. Probably the most unusual thing about it is the way the large blade unlocks. In 1988 or 1989, I was shown an old knife which made use of this locking system and I was immediately intrigued. There are very few two bladed knives with a locking blade.

Queen's English Gentleman's Jack Knife

These are knives that could have been made in England one hundred years ago. The work would be familiar to the buyers of the best quality work of that day but the steel would have confounded them completely. Stainless steel did not exist until after 1910 and stainless that would hold an edge did not exist until about 1950.

Queen Yellow Delrin Trapper

In mid-2006, Queen discovered a little over 100 of these knives in their vault. Naturally, we snapped them up for our customers who preferred the old-fashioned 420HC stainless blades to the D2 that Queen has changed to. They went very quickly. We went back to Queen and made a deal with them to keep producing these knives for our customers.

If the edge was not blunted by the wire, it passed the test and was marked with "File & Wire Tested". This method and mark was used by Schatt & Morgan for many years and evolved into a brand.
