A. G. Russell Kitchen Knives and The World’s Greatest Knife Block

This series of kitchen knives is based on designs that I began almost 20 years ago. We had to bring together the designs, the right steel, the handle material and the people to make the knives. The steel is a very special high carbon stainless tool steel containing enough tungsten to assure real edge holding. The handles are a very dense, very dark, laminated wood that will give 100 years of service if they are treated with a little care. (Please do NOT soak them in the sink or dish pan and DO NOT put them in the dishwasher.) They are shaped so that you can use them for hours without discomfort, they will fit large hands or small. These knives are lightweight, with very thin blades, just enough thickness to give the necessary stiffness for the job for which each knife is intended.

While I have always loved the forged bolster knife look, I have always had problems with weight, balance and the fact that great modern steels cannot be easily forged. For years we produced, in Germany, the finest forged bolster knives in the world. The company that did that special work for us has closed and no more will be produced.

These knives are made without compromise. Weight, balance, thinness at the cutting edge and the entire blade geometry are meant to give you the best cutting experience of your cooking life. We guarantee that they will hold an edge with, or better than, the best custom kitchen knives of any other steel. They provide an alternative to the very heavy, forged bolster knives. The steel is of course without compare. Made in Japan.
