In the late 1960s, I designed a knife for the pilots in Vietnam. By 1972, we were producing this knife in our newly aquired Morseth knife company which I purchased in 1970 from Harry Morseth's son Gordon after Harry's death. I hired a very young Bob Dozier to move the Morseth shop to Springdale, Arkansas where we made Morseth® knives until early 2000.

In 2001, unable to acquire the laminated steel which had so long been used in Morseth® blades, we were bringing this knife back in 154CM as an A. G. Russell Shopmade® knife for our pilots in the Middle East. Our knifemaker's hunting accident in early 2002, which left him unable to use his left side, ended our Shopmade program for a while. With a new knifemaker, the program is getting back into full swing with the A. G. Russell Shopmade® Chute Knife as the first project to be completed.

The 5" clip point blade of 154CM at 59-61 Rc. is ground a little different than you might expect. The swedge is ground to within 7/8" of the guard on the reverse side, but a flat is left a full 1-1/2" from the guard on the obverse (front) side to allow for the mark. This gets the attention of our knifemakers every time. The 416 stainless reinforced double hilt is drilled at each end as a survival knife so that it can be lashed to a pole and used as a spear. The handle is our own Ebony Rucarta, the most durable handle material known. Measures 9-5/8" overall and weighs about 5.4 oz.

This knife is still in production. The photos were created from a prototype. Details such as spacers may vary on the actual knife.
