A. G. Russell Knives

From the age of nine I made homemade knives until I was about twenty four when I began to make handmade knives, crude but no longer homemade. A few years later, I had met and learned from makers like R. W. Loveless and R. L. Dozier. I made knives until the mid 1970s but today seldom make a knife a year. However I do have very talented makers in the United States and Japan who make knives that I am proud to put my name on. I design them and have them made to our standards.

Notice that these blades are deeply hollow ground. They have very thin edges for real slicing ability. The steel is ATS-34, today's premium high-carbon stainless that is used by the top custom knifemakers around the world.

A. G. Russell Brute

In the 1970s, Bill Davis and I developed the concept of building a folding knife with plastic handles and no liners. The first commercially viable knife produced was the A. G. Russell Brute. It used Rucarta, a Micarta® like material for the handle sides and had no liners.
