At the 2007 S.H.O.T. Show, Mcusta® introduced to the American market a Limited Edition series designed from the traditional Japanese Art images of "Ka-Cho-Fu-Getsu" (Flower-Bird-Wind-Moon). Over the past two years, they have built a reputation for what they call Precision Machine Custom Knives. These are very high quality folders based on traditional Japanese craftsmanship, but taking full advantage of modern manufacturing technology.
The precision inlay work created in this new highly limited series is strikingly intricate. The level of precision in the detail cut into the cocobolo handles could only be accomplished using modern technology. The designs are created through collaboration with traditional Japanese Artists/Craftsmen and each model will be limited to a maximum of 150 pieces. Each knife will be serial numbered (sorry, no choice of numbers) and stamped with the red Mcusta insignia (Rakuin). When we offered you the first version of this knife, the one with Cherry Blossoms, we made a mistake on the total quantity of the knife produced. Like this version, there were a maximum of 150 knives made for worldwide distribution. Of those 150, we received 50 with the leather display box. The leather box was produced exclusively for A. G. Russell.
The Tancho (Crane) is our second selection in this series. Two cranes in flight are cut through beautifully figured Cocobolo and then inset with detailed stainless inlays. The Tancho is regarded as the most majestic and elegant bird in Japan with its slender figure, well-balanced contrast of black and white feathers on its body, and a crown-like red spot on its head. Because of its striking appearance and a legend that cranes live to be a thousand years old, the Japanese people have long considered the Tancho a symbol of longevity and auspiciousness. The 3-1/4" drop point blade is VG-10 at 58-60 Rc. Measures 4-1/4" closed and weighs 3.8 oz. Made in Japan.
