The Alaskan Skinner was my favorite Randall pattern for many years. It is the first Randall I bought when I had $35 to spare. After more than 60 years it is still one of their most usable knives.
This was Randall’s original drop point blade. It was designed by Tommy Thompson, noted Alaskan guide, in 1952 for big game skinning. The point of the blade was “dropped” below the top of the blade to prevent cutting too deeply through the skin when used point first. The top of the blade is notched in front of the hilt for thumb placement.
This is a serious hunting knife with a 3/16" thick 4-1/2" blade of O1 high carbon tool steel (not stainless) at 53-55 Rc., fingergrooved leather handle, brass hilt and butt and a Model A leather sheath with sharpening stone. Measures 9" tip to butt. We recommend RustFree™ to protect your O-1 blade from rust. (RF125 . . . . . . $6.95).
We have not sold this particular model before, but ordered a few several months ago with fingergooved leather handles. We have only eight in stock and no more on order. If you like this model, don’t hesitate or they will be gone.
(10-21-09) Due to Randall's high volume of orders, if not on our shelves when you order, delivery of Randall knives ordered from A. G. Russell is currently taking 5-6 months. If ordered directly from Randall the wait is currently five years.
