Queen Cutlery dates back to 1890 when the Schatt & Morgan Cutlery Company was started in Gowanda, NY. The company moved to Titusville, PA in the year 1895 to the same building from which Queen Cutlery (owner of the Schatt & Morgan trademark) operates today. Schatt & Morgan knives continue to be produced using many of the same hand processes used those many years ago. The File & Wire Tested mark was employed over 70 years ago to insure the hardness of a blade by cutting it with a new file and then testing the edge by cutting a wire of known consistency and hardness.
Series Four of Schatt & Morgan's File & Wire Tested knives began with the Mountain Man Trapper; it was followed by a Swing Guard lockback, a Slim Coke Bottle and a Signature Bolster Daddy Barlow. The Cotton Knife is the 5th in the series. This pattern is a cousin of the pruning knife and was used by cotton buyers for cutting samples out of bales. A slipjoint, it features a 3-1/4" blunt ended cotton blade of ATS-34 stainless steel at 59-61 Rc., nickel silver bolsters and shield, brass liners and Pennsylvania Mt. Moss Green jigged bone handle scales. Measures 4-1/8" closed and weighs 3.8 oz. Made in the U.S.A. Suggested retail is $136.40.
