Thirteen years ago Tinus, a teacher of Afrikaans and other subjects at an English School in South Africa, had never seen a handmade knife. His world changed when a friend showed him a knife that the friend had made. Tinus describes it as being rough indeed, but it inspired him to attempt his own. The knives improved for several years, but it was not until Tinus began selling outside South Africa that knifemaking became profitable. Growing up, his major hobby was collecting knives, with no idea of what lay in store for him. Now his hobby is hunting and he takes at least three trips a year to the Bushveld near the Zimbabwe border to hunt for the Kudu, Impala, Black Wildebeest and Warthog for the horns and tusks that he uses on his knives, which adds to the joy of the hunt.
A few years ago, when we first featured Tinus' knives in the Cutting Edge® catalogs, we were swamped with orders. This has been repeated every time we have offered his knives. Once again we bring you knives from this South African maker.
