Designer Joe Caswell seems to be somewhat of a mad scientist. When A.G. handled the prototype of his original Provoke folding knife he was impressed with the functionality. Joe decided he wanted to add a folding tactical axe to his Provoke in Kinematic systems during a 2 day drive after the Blade Show, 94 iterations later, CRKT released the Provoke X Morphing Axe.
This small yet robust Tomahawk can be carried in a pocket or bag as if it was a large folding knife. The Provoke X has two different cutting/striking surfaces, the tomahawk blade on one side and a spike on the other. Blade and spike are stowed safetly in recessed areas of the handle to protect the edges. The head of the Provoke X houses the Kinematic opening system and the Deadbolt lock secures the blade in place. The handle is made of stainless steel with glass reinforced nylon inserts.
To open: release the safety, while holding the base of the handle – rapidly flick the axe head away from the body. This will open both arms, the blade and spike are secured by the Deadbolt® lock with two steel bolts. To close: Press the Deadbolt button to release the lock while gripping the handle push down on the top of the blade and spike, they will fold into the frame. Axe is fully closed when the ambidextrous safety automatically engages.
The cutting edge of the axe measures 1-7/8" in length and is made of SUIJ2 blade steel for exceptional impact resistance. The entire axe is coated in a black Titanium nitride coating. Comes with an adjustable left or right hand carry pocket clip. Measures 8-5/8" overall. Weighs 13.2 oz. Made in Taiwan.
